    Oes,
    I have created a web-site (or rather am busy creating.........) which is designed to honour the "Founder Fathers" of Karate and the Martial Arts in South Africa.
    It all started after the last world war, with the 1st influx of these ancient sciences and then seemed to really take off in the early 1950's.
    The following "Shihan's" have been identified as being the "Founder Father's" and I would be most appreciative if ANYONE can add to this list, or better still, put me in contact with ANY one of these GIANT'S.
    "Shihan": Richard Salmon. (Goju-Ryu/Goju-Kai/****o-Ryu)
    "Shihan": Stan Smidt. (Shotokan)
    "Shihan": Des Botha. (Shukokai)
    "Shihan": Len Barnes. (Kyokushin)
    "Shihan": Alex Butcher. (Judo)
    "Shihan": Jack Robinson. (Ju-Jitsu)
    "Shihan": James Rousseau. (Goju)

    Please go to http://groups.msn.com/SABLACKBELTHALLOFFAME/ to follow the progress of Honouring these great men. "Giants in their time".

    MAY THE FORCE ALWAYS BE WITH YOU.

    According to his book that I have it's "Stan Schmidt."

    And a fine book it is too... "Spirit of the Empty Hand"

    Doesn't James Rousseau have a brother? Peter who taught also?

    Oes gojutejutsuryu,
    I believe that Shihan Stan Schmidt can be contacted through this site http://www.openhand.co.za/pages/about_us.asp
    I also think that he has his own dedicated site.

    What about Shihan Steve Arneil? He is from SA isn't he?
    And Shihan Leo Lipinski (Gogen Yamaguchi Goju-Kai) was also from SA. I do not know if these men meet your criteria.

    I am extremely grateful to you in taking time to create this site. As I have mentioned before, Shihan James Rousseau is a significant figure in the history of Goju-ryu karate yet information on him is very limited. I will send you a PM very soon regarding contact info for him.

    Maybe your initiative will inspire someone in this country to do something similar. If I possesed the knowledge I would;)
