From the current world championships: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dgWzSOLYyts"]9th WWC 2007 Men's TaijiQuan - WU YaNan (China) 9.90 - YouTube[/ame]
PRC's gymnastic bastardisation of TaiJi that is often judged by people who do not practice TaiJi themselves. China is desperate to get a 'sport' into the olympics to vie with Taekwondo etc. My first teacher was a fan of this type of TaiJi, however he had a background of EMA. Carys.
Well, I guess you don't like it then, lol. I've heard Chen clan people froth about modern taiji, but there again Yiquan people froth about taiji, lol. For me, there's room for all... All aspects of glorious quan... I should imagine that guy's trad taiji is off the scale good.
Over elaborate crap, if you ask me. Tai Chi needs to be stripped back not more poo piled on top. Not enough focus on principles and too much on flowery movements. The Bear.
polar bear, you really sound like the founder of yi quan. i haven't got any links, but the yi quan methodolgy/principles would probably match up with your own. the yi quan people i trained with in china were very, very vocal in their opinion on taiji being totally useless for self defence for 99% of it's players. the tjq people i trained with were a little bit more polite.
I don't know yi quan, but TJQ is long over due a martial overhaul to weed out the nonsense. The Bear.
if you can be bothered, read this: http://www.tapmax.com/download/wxzintsample.pdf it really sums up a lot of peoples feelings about flowery fists in tjq
Personally, I figure forms is forms, fighting is fighting... If you're gonna do forms, at least do cool forms... Just purely in terms of "wushu taiji" in and of itself as a category, I thought that guy's taiji was tremendous. I've heard Chen taiji people slag off Yiquan... At the end of the day, I hate you all. Heh..
Cipls like this show what happens when the Chinese authorities take the Qi out of Taiji.... You get a fusion of ballet and gymnastics. Oh, and loverly silk jimjams.
Tai Chi is not form. Tai Chi is a martial arts as soon as you move away from that then it is no longer Tai Chi. The Bear.
