Who's planning on being at the much anticipated 4th Annual Cumann Bhata, "Recreatinoal Violence Weekend," Western Martial Arts Semiar? (Well, I'm "much anticipating it" anyhow. ) Peace favor your sword, Kirk
Can't Wait Kirk, I am planning on coming out.. and it is much anticipated for me too. Thanks, Chris Amendola
Sorry for the lateness of the reply. I've been on Vacation for a week. Justin hasn't put up a website for it yet but I can give you the details and links to the previous ones for informational purposes. Date: June 7th and 8th. Instructors: Josh Little (teaching something in the Liechtenauer tradition) Allen Reed (Ambushed and the big knife) Kirk Lawson (the grappling of classic pugilism) Bob Charon (something from Fiore) Ken Pfrenger (probably boxing or bata) Dave Doyle (wrestling) Mark Rainey (grappling and the Military Saber) Justin White-Lowther (ims, Pallas Armas) Randal Gustitis (if we can get ahold of him) First year: http://www.pareddown.com/cbwma/index.php Second year: http://www.swordforge.org/events/2006cb/overview.php Last year: http://www.swordforge.org/events/2007cb/overview.php The event is designed for people who want to attend a Western Martial Arts seminar on a budget. Every year there are classes in weapons and unarmed. Classes range from Dempsey Boxing to German Longsword, from Tomahawk to Jogo do Pau. Peace favor your sword, Kirk
I am assuming this event is in ohio? Thats a bit of a travel for me since I am in the UK But; I do have some friends in ohio that my be intersted in going! They are in Dayton,so I shall pass on the info. Thanks for that!
PLEASE ENSURE THAT SEMINAR DETAILS ARE POSTED IN THE EVENTS/SEMINAR SECTION OF MAP OR THAT DETAILS CAN BE PASSED ON AS A PM! Hi Damien. James Marwood of Schola Gladatoria is doing some Irish Stick Fighting at the BFHS event in Edinburgh this year if your interested just pm me for the details. Louie
might be fed members only for the AGM (where the stick seminar would be)... could be wrong but as membership would be just a fiver ... might be worth it anyway.
Yes. Well, the OH/PA boarder. The obvious solution is to move to the U.S.; uproot your family and entire life in order to satisfy my desire to have another attendee. I am based in Dayton. Cumann Bhata Dayton. Would these friends be members of ARMA? We are aware of a small (at last contact) ARMA club here. We've managed to contact them on one or two occasions by email and two of their members went to ISMAC in '06 (IMS). However, they are notoriously difficult to contact (for us anyway). E-mails go unanswered often. I don't know if they're just too busy or just don't have any interest in what CB Dayton is doing (there really is very little overlap between medieval and renaisance studies of ARMA and the mostly 18th & 19th C. WMA that we do). Whatever the case, they may indeed be interested in attending due to the fact that Josh Little will almost certainly do something (again) from the Liechtenauer tradition and Bob Charon will be there and he's "Mr. Fiore" if ever there was (how many people do you know who will learn to read medieval Italian for no other reason than to better understand his martial art?). Peace favor your sword, Kirk
I was planning on waiting until Justin got a website together but I suspect you're right; I should just go ahead and "officially" announce it and post the website when it's up. I interact with James on another forum regularly. He is knowledgeable, intelligent, well spoken, and contributes regularly to the base of information. I wouldn't hesitate to train with him. Peace favor your sword, Kirk
He's perfectly willing to talk about it on the [Bata] yahoo elist. http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/bata IIRC, aren't you a member there too? Yes, too many lists and too many names to remember I've sent him an email on the Schola list! Cheers!!!! Louie
Here is what we have so far.....btw I added it to the events calander. The Cumann Bhata's fourth annual Rec Violence weekend will be held on June 7th and 8th at the Pymatuning State Park in Andover Ohio at the Poplar Grove site. Right on the Ohio/Penn border. http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks/tabid/781/Default.aspx We usually all try to reserve campsites from around numbers 88 to 113 or so. There are also cabins and Yurts to rent, but those tend to fill up quick. This year we will be charging $15 admission for the weekend event. Finding a place to lay your head is up to you though. There are several local motels that I can provide info about if anyone is interested...best bet is to camp though. So far our instuctor and class line up looks like this: Kirk Lawson - Banned from Boxing Allen Reed - Ambushed with a bowie Bob Charon - The Use of Fiore's Art of Dagger in Wrestling Bob Charon - Strong at the Crossing: Understanding Five Kinds of Leverage Using the Longsword Ken Pfrenger - Fun with shillelaghs Ken Pfrenger - Intro to jacket wrestling Randal Gustitis - JdP Randal Gustitis - Cossack Shashka Mark Rainey - Battlefield Saber Josh Little - Hangen with Liechtenauer - The use of the Hanging Guards in German Longsword Some different material than in previous years. We will also be finding some time for some singlestick matches this year and perhaps some other fun stuff around the campfire in the evenings. if there are any questions feel free to contact me at kenpfrenger@gmail.com
