I go away for the weekend and the thread wanders like mad. Unresolved issues from this thread, each point could be a thread on its own: 1/ Do the SAS use Aikido for all their Hand to Hand needs? 2/ Can TJB defiy the laws of physics and fly, unaided, ....even just a little bit? 3/ Did CTH have poor intent, or was he just a bad actor? 4/ Does Cullion in-fact have a sense of humor? (I know the answer to this one)
Unresolved issues from this thread, each point could be a thread on its own: 1/ Do the SAS use Aikido for all their Hand to Hand needs? Or do some specialised units have a more indepth hand-to-hand training system than just basic stuff. 2/ Can TJB defiy the laws of physics and fly, unaided, ....even just a little bit? Cue music: I believe I can fly...I believe I can touch the sky!(music courtesy of a little green birdy. 3/ Did CTH have poor intent, or was he just a bad actor? Maybe he was hamming it up for the clip to make it look scarier? Whenever I have taken part in demonstrations (not taiji, but western stuff, I had put my scary face on for added hammy-ness) I was still in control though. 4/ Does Cullion in-fact have a sense of humor? (I know the answer to this one) Prob'ly
Its just part of his personal vendetta against me. I think his personal attacks are against the TOS and spoil things for every one.
Liokault, I don't have a vendetta against you. You're the only one carrying a vendetta around here, one look at your profile will show this. I posted a link to that thread by Sandus, since you have managed to derail this thread by making your initial comment "Sourgrapes...Chi" to Polar Bear, in regards to his practicing Aikido, and then continuing to into your next post with style bashing comments. despite what you believe, the universe does not revolve around you. On topic, I have a cousin who is in the Army, and he has spoken to me about the empty hand training they do. From what he said, I gathered that it is similar to the training that police officers practice. Control and restraint, however with slightly more emphasis on disarming an armed opponent when unarmed, and maintaining control of your own weapon. He did not mention any specific style.
Hmmm, and I was only addressing a comment on the previous post by PB. I guess that’s why its called a thread, someone makes a point, then another guy makes a counter point. We could just get someone to post, then all reply with agreements on how right they are <removed>, but than we would have to call it something other than a thread. Oh, and on me derailing the thread, I think I was fully on topic when I answered a comment by a Aikido guy attacking a Tai Chi master for FIGHTING
Dunno why you've dragged my name into this - but your comment is: a.) untrue b.) unfair and c.) reported to the mods Leave me out of your silly games
Reading through this thread their really doesn't seem to be a huge amount to get upset over. I'm sure you folks have some history and you clearly have vastly different views but aren't some of you taking stuff a bit too seriously?
Actually, I think my problem that he wasn't fighting hard enough and the attackers lacked commitment. Also I am not an Aikido guy. I fight in polar bear aikijutfu. I have actually spent more time training in Wudang Tai Chi than Aikido. If it is time served that determines style then I would be Muay Thai style. Do I think there are issues with the way Tai Chi is taught, your right. I disagree with the closed system. It stifles development and the only reason it is done is to make money. Also the Bai Shi which obliges you to not pass on your knowledge unless approved is fundamentally against my principles. This is why I left tai chi not because I felt the system was ineffective. The Bear.
Wow.. Its like a soap opera in here.. maybe we can get some EastEnders type music to come on evrytime you view the thread..
But when you replied with: You were not talking about the film clip were you? You were commenting on my brief (anecdotal) history of CTH the fighter. Well, you can train for as long as you like without going through the bai shi and not miss anything. Only to make money, well Dan does take money at the point of bai shi. Does he take too much money? Compared to other arts probably not. What art wants unqualified teachers going round claiming to be part of the group? As I understand it, you are not restricted (like legally) from teaching, but unless you do the teacher training you cannot be part of the 'Practical Tai Chi International' group. As I see it, this is not unreasonable. Anyway, must run as I have a seminar on Polar Bear Aikijutfu (tm) for old dears to run....not sure on the content yet, I'll just wing it shall I?
