Here is a throwing bag training - weight between 16 lb to 23 lb: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQ9cyPxPXE8"]throw bag - YouTube[/ame]
There are some pretty good reasons for using a sandbag over and above standard free weight options - mainly that they are good for carrying, dragging, throwing and using for partner work. Plus the constantly shifting load is useful in helping to develop stabilising muscles and grip. That said, it's just another tool so make sure your programming is still solid.
Of course not. You can only lift something so many ways. A sandbag instead of a barbell though is much more difficult. Most people may be able to handle 100 pounds on a barbell but a 100 pound sandbag is a different story.
Kuma you're back, you're back While that's true given the choice I'd still choose barbell training over sandbag training unless I was building a really cheap home gym. Also if you can gte a hold of a 4 foot propane tank lifting that will build functional strength. There's a native woman up north at my cottage who sells them. She picks up full ones like they're nothing and those things are HEAVY.
Things like sandbags or propane tanks or kegs you'll find are much more difficult to lift than a barbell. I remember the first time I pressed a keg full of water (years ago) and how I was in shock as I was putting almost 80 pounds more than that overhead at the time yet it was an absolute beast to lock out.
