Just heard he died of a heart attack;one of the original z-boys who redefined skateboarding with a punky DIY ethos.(Also made some sweet boards-will be riding my daughters Ze-flex in his honour today) Rest in peace. I read about this last night. Sad news indeed. He seemed to struggle with his demons most of his life and career. People throw the word 'legend' around a lot, Adams really is one! RIP Jay Boy. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4QZtywRfgN4"]One for Jay! Possessed to Skate[/ame]
Ya, surprising and sad, a heart attack at only 53. I met him a couple years ago at my favorite skateboard store. He signed my deck and drew on my helmet. It's the helmet that I wear all the time. Real cool guy. He was late arriving, and I asked him why, and he said he went to church that morning and got out a little late, and then had a little trouble finding the shop. (He lived in Orange County, and I live in Los Angeles County.) That made an impression on me, that this guy was in church. He really did have a zipper tattoo on his head. My son asked him why he would tattoo a zipper to his head, and Jay said because his friend said he'd pay for it if he did it, so he did it. No other reason. Super cool guy. If we had lived in the same town he's the sort of guy I would have wanted to befriend.
