Hey Guys, More of a reintroduction for myself as I used to be a very active member on these forums (in fact I was one of the 'original members' and a Global Mod). I've been away from the forum proper for a about a year now, but Saz's asked me to come back to kick over some anthills. About me: I've been training in MA's since 1992 and I've trained in pretty much an A-Z of martial arts, forming many of my own biased opinions In terms of grades/instructorships that I remember that I have (seriously, gradings have become a bit of a non-event for me): Goshindo Tai Jitsu, 1st Degree Black Belt/Senior Instructor Scottish Selp Protection Group, Instructor Dog Brothers Martial Arts, Group Leader (DBMA encompasses methods from lots of different styles) Judo, Brown Belt (this is one of the few gradings I care about, me and that BB have some unfinished business ) Shotokan Karate, Brown Belt (Don't practice anymore) BJJ, Blue Belt Rapid Arnis, Blue II Shodokan Aikido, Green Belt MMA - Well, you either train and spar, or you don't I haven't fought (see below) but have done a stint as an assistant MMA coach at my previous MMA gym. Trained heavily but not 'ranked' Wing Chun Doce Pares Muay Thai (I'm not very good, I have shins like peaches!) Boxing "Kickboxing" (Yep, those are inverted commas ) Trained a little, but I'm no expert Freestyle Wrestling Greco Wrestling TKD (biggest waste of my money) Tai Chi Sambo I'm sure there's bound to be some other stuff I haven't had enough coffee this morning to remember. Competition/Fighting Dog Brothers Gatherings - This is the big thing for me. Check out www.dogbrothers.com I'm too lazy to explain If you're really interested pop over to the FMA forum and start a thread, I'm happy to answer questions. We do do the occasional NHB (think UFC1 but with generally more skill ) at these events, this is why I feel comfortable coaching MMA 'type' material material. Was you fight in the DB tribe you earn a Dog Name, I am currently a Candidate Dog Brother, C-Point Dog. San Da - I fought in a heavyweight tournement once (at 2kg over being a light heavy), took the Bronze Judo/BJJ: Well, you gotta compete to progress through the ranks Kickboxing: Nothing to write home about, I'm not that good. T3h 5tr33t Grew up on a farm and moved to a pretty industrialised town in my teenaged years, got beaten up a lot by the local teen gangs. Became an apprentice (which is like being in a gang), had some more scraps. Grew up and went to Uni, worked as a bouncer for three years to help ends meet (ok, I didn't grow up that much). Did head bouncer and 'on the job trainer' at a few middle sized pubs, worked as a regular at a few night clubs. Other I'm a fully qualified mechanical engineer, who also happens to be training for his level 3 Personal Trainer qualification (and yes, I do earn more money as an engineer). My training/coaching has declined in the last year do to a home invasion by something called a 'son' Also, I don't do ********. That's got to be the longest intro every
Been there, seen it done it, does that sum you up. Good to have some one along who can tell it like it is.
@ Simon S: You missed 'jaded as hell' @ Slip: They still haven't banned you! Good to see you're still around keeping the BS levels down @ Fish: Is it wrong that I can do more pulls than chins these days? Weird. @ Ian/Saz: Your're both still alive! I thought the stress of this place would have killed you both by now!
This place is actually now LESS stressful than my job. I just took my 2nd exam in 6 months and have about 3 more to do this year, and on top of that I'm working harder than ever before on the work I actually get paid for. Doesn't leave a lot of time for training, revision and socialising!
I switched to Dairy Milk and soup from Eat, I'm trying to be healthier. I was having trouble hiding my fat ass in that hedge.
Definitely the wrong house then! I suggest you return the bits of the rabbit you haven't eaten and hope that they're not too annoyed.
Nah - I was in the same position myself after a few months of training for a casual pull-up competition on another forum.
Welcome back Freeform. Glad to see someone with such a nice background being more active. Besides, a Judo guy. We can always use more Judo guys ...and gals
