    Hey Guys,

I've got a set of focus mitts that I take into training and sometimes use, but other than that I never get to make contact on anything, I'm thinking of picking up a punching bag or a BOB and am hence here for some suggestions.

I've got no room inside the house, so I'll need something that I can fit into my 8"x6" shed and drag out into the garden.

I'm interested in maybe one of those Century BOB free standing torsos, as they seem quite lifelike and may provide the best training aid, but they are quite expensive (can't find one for under £300).

Traditional punchbags are cheaper, anything form £30-£60 in argos for Reebok or Everlast models, but then I would need to purchase some frame which appears to be around £170.

What do you guys use? (I'm sure theres one or two hardcore fighters that will admit kicking the nearest lampost barefooted :p ) Any tips?

    Kicked 'em all down?

A wall mounted bracket is the easiest of hanging devices, stick a basket of flowers on it when not training. The Bob isn't great and once filled is going to be a bugger to move.

howdy jayla, top idea for opening a thread on something freestanding, iv been thinking on what to put in place of my prize gazzebo that blew away around bonfire night:eek:

surely theres something out there map guys have used and give it the thumbs up! im asumeing the very inexpensive blow up types are a no no for any sort of impact kicking but maybe reasonable if its controlled targeting's your aim....personnelly I want something I can hit hard realistically and id be grateful of any suggestions, maybe theres something you can knock together yourself like a padded pole thats very stable in the ground.

    regards kamau

edit...im not sure what model this one in the video is but is there anything wrong with this type of training aid?[ame="http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNp06rKB2Ns"]http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNp06rKB2Ns[/ame]

I *HAD* a Century XXL freestanding "bag", but no more.

It worked better as a cardio training tool than for power IMO. The "bag" bit of the bag is actually a fat plastic pillar, wrapped in foam, with a layer of vinyl wrapped over it. The foam is quite soft, but the pillar is hard - so depends on what kind of gloves you use, and how hard you punch.

Then there is the base. It's basically a BIG, hollow polo (mint) that has a screw cap that allows you to fill it with e.g. water to weigh it down. I put 70L water in there, and I was kicking and punching it that it would tip about, which was fun for a while.

However with a hanging bag, you have the flexibility of hanging it low and let the bottom scrape the floor thus making it heavier still - I am referring to a 6ft bag. Or you can hang it a bit higher (just adjust with CARIBINAS) and swing it - as it comes towards you, WHAM, you hit it, jump into its path to tighten up your blocks, etc. A lot more fun and satisfaction, personally for me anyway.
