i think he should maybe resume his kyokushin training too. afaik, he's been a green belt for like forever (a quick google tells me he started at 11, left at 13, resumed at 26 and left at 27)

that said, i definitely do not envy his opponent. let's not forget that this isn't simply a big, strong dude, but one that to all practical purposes is among the 5 strongest men in the world

Agreed, which makes me wonder why he seems focused on Hulk smashing the other guy rather than submissions. Imagine an arm bar from this guy? SNAP!

probably because pummeling the other guy would make it harder for the other guy to knock him out first. afaik he only recently started training for mma, barring his brief forays into tma, so the moment he tries to armbar someone who knows how to avoid it, he's probably going to open himself up for some nasty shots.

on the other hand, teach him a proper low roundhouse and it's gg for most of his opponents

What do you think the odds are of him ever throwing a high kick? I can quite imagine that would be like getting hit in the face with a 50lbs sledge hammer at 40mph. Maybe I could drop his training team a quick e-mail offering to train him to do the splits

i remember Pudinowski shadow boxing inbetween strongman events four or five years ago. It sticks in my head cos' he was doing headkicks and then went into a 180 degree split. i thought then that with some decent training he would be a monster in MMA. To win worlds strongest man five times he's gotta have the right attitude! and unlike other strongmen he has little bodyfat and he seems to specialise in endurance events, but cardio is gonna be a big problem........
