Artist Steve McQueen has an interesting campaign to feature pictures of those soldiers who died in the Iraq war as a war memorial to them. Story here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/jonathanjonesblog/2009/aug/17/art-steve-mcqueen-war-stamp It's interesting to see a notable artist doing something like this, do people think it's a fitting tribute? Wonder if the Royal Mail will accept it?
I like the idea. It certainly is touching in that it forces you to think about each soldier as an individual, a person, rather than just a casuality, a number.
I think its a bit morbid! Also, how do you decide which ones to use? We've only got a few denominations of stamps. And even if you did use every dead soldier's picture, do you keep adding new ones as more soldiers get killed? Surely there are more appropriate and more practical ways to comemorate them?
