    Hello Everyone,

I am new here, don't know where to start asking the questions so if I am doing something wrong, please consider my apologies first.
I am learning JKD and a little bit of Kung-Fu together. The most annoying thing is that I tend to forget the names and thus when I start to practice on my own I miss 2/3 techniques randomly. I have asked my teachers about the names and they helped me most of the times still sometimes I forget the names and thus to practice them.

I am looking for an online resource where I can have the names belt by belt, is there something you know of? Please let me know.

*** I have tried noting down these on a piece of paper but again having it online will help me a lot so let me know if there is a place or resource you know of.

    Thanks
    to all masters!
    :)

What helped me a lot was to write stuff down in a notebook. I would jot stuff down during water breaks or after class while it was fresh... and then review it. Eventually I would transfer it to a typed document, but I found the handwritten aspect stuck with me better. My normal rule of thumb was to try to remember 1 or 2 things per class.... more than that was too much for me.

As well as Thomas’ good advice, I’d add that there are many books and DVDs on JKD.

With which style of kung fu are you supplementing your JKD?

Well, I have tried this already and also mentioned about it earlier but I practice mostly at night so having a paper with no light is kinda useless if I can have it digitally then I can at least see it whenever needed! thanks for your reply though.

Thanks, Please let me know the name of the books you are talking about, surely that would help. I am learning a bit of Win Chun and Taikiken (very little) with JKD.
    Any advice is appreciated.

    Google “wing Chun terms”

Alternatively do as Thomas said and type up the notes you take in class on your computer at home

No it's ok - I wasn't being snarky just stating a fact that many teachers (myself included) have preferences on books and the authors of same; in JKD that is certainly teh case and there are some I wouldn;t let my crew touch with a ten foot pole

Equally there are some I class as "must haves" so that's why I said ask them

Out of curiosity, which JKD books do you recommend to your students?

The Tao, The Fighting method and the Tuttle Library are must haves as they reflect Bruce's own ideas more than most

If you can get them the Original Dan Inosanto books are very good too - not including the FMA one (which is still very good but not a JKD book).

Dynamic Becoming by James Bishop is exceptional

    Now, for nice to haves....

Tim Tackett and Chris Kents JKD kickboxing and Jun Fan/JKD textbook are solid as is the Black Belt series Tackett produced
Larry Hartsell has several good books out but more specialised than most (grappling/trapping)
Kevin Seaman "Jun Fan" is a very good one as is the first of Vunaks called "JKD it's concepts and philosophies"

I like to practice at night when no one is sneaking on my activities + it helps me to concentrate more, that's why I don't have lights but I carry my phone for listening to some music.

Probably requires another thread, but why is this? There seems to be an unusual amount of criticism against her. I used to have her Straight Lead book, which was quite interesting if a bit reductive. Her views on the place of wing chun and eskrima would have certainly raised some hackles, but she seems to be no more outspoken or extreme in her views than some other Original JKD Puritans. However she did work quite closely with Ted Wong who was one of Bruce Lee's closest students. While her views may have reduced JKD to another form of kickboxing, she still probably had ideas to offer. As someone who worked as Amir Khan's nutritionalist she can't have been a total hack. I'm given to understand that she has been somewhat ostracized. In short is this an OJKD puritan vs JKD Concepts issue or does it run deeper than the usual for other reasons? (and no I don't believe that this is a 'Gender' issue)

There is certainly a lot of that "Puritan vs Progressive" aspect to it, but for me it is more than that. She talks a big game and is very quick to say anyone not doing it like Ted is wrong (oversimplified, but basically it) so immediately I cannot stand her.

This is bad enough but when you look at her actual skill level it isn't very good, so she is running her mouth with nothing to back it up.

Her being a qualified nutritionist is irrelevant; she could be a qualified gardener and that would have as much effect on my view of her

And no her gender is not relevant to how little regard I hold her in :)
