NOOOOOO! Please let this be a fake story. No, I know it isn't........... I was sad about Bowie, but not a die hard fan. Not a Motorhead or Eagles fan, but THIS one hurts. I have tears in my eyes. I am a DIE HARD Jefferson Airplane fan. Jefferson Starship too. (Starship- not so much.) Had a lot of his solo work on LP too. :cry::cry::cry::cry: And I mean it. I have tears in my eyes right now. Edit - I have had a couple of minutes to let this one sink in..........I don't want to say this because it means it is real. But I am so very grateful to have his music in my life. Been listening since I was an idealistic wannabe hippy in my teens, and this 50 year old, not so idealized in view, person who enjoys punching for fun - STILL loves Jefferson Airplane and I always will. Rest in peace Paul Kantner. He wrote this song with members of Crosby, Stills, and Nash. One of my favorites written by him. but I have MANY favorites by him and Grace Slick. I worked at a theatre in Vancouver in the late 70's and I remember Jefferson Starship just starting to get going. They came to the theatre and did a number of concerts to get together material for a video for MTV. I too liked Airplane better than Starship but no one can deny the impact that Kantner had via both these bands. LFD
Saw Jeff Starship live 1981 Winds of Change tour.Great show, Grace, Paul and Chaquico on stage together. I also remember a great bass solo(I believe by pete sears). I grew up with early Starship hits and feel that they were a big influence from mid 70's - mid 80's. Paul Kantner was definatley a big part of the classic rock sound of that time. TWO members of the Original Jefferson Airplane within a WEEK? :cry::cry::cry: She had a fantastic voice and the debut album by Airplane is a brilliant album. More bluesy folk than later albums......Apparently, this is a recording of her last performance with Airplane. In that era anyways. I have to check, but I think they did do some reunion work decades later. Well, I just went on an Amazon buying binge. Bought 9 Airplane/ Great Society/ Jefferson Starship/ solo CD's. Really cheap too. Mind you, I had them all on LP. But not on CD. Very bummed that Nuclear Furniture is out of print. Hopefully, they reissue it.
