[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JVcbVeMnt8"]YouTube - Metallica - Until it sleeps (lyrics)‏[/ame] another metallica song that represented to me my own emotions during my formative years, and has recently taken a different, yet similar meaning.
Don't know why I was thinking of this... Only those who've experienced having your door broken down in the middle of the night and drug away from your family can really dig what this is about... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwhYjajT-1E"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwhYjajT-1E[/ame]

Lot of depressed people seem to listen to the band and for him to right a song so opposed to suicide was quite a big thing I think.

goddamn, this song sums up perfectly what i was like before, emotionally and psychologically, and what i'm trying with moderate success to move away from... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaUKY9EiBew"]Aesthetic Perfection - Living The Wasted Life WITH LYRICS!!!‏ - YouTube[/ame]
Can relate to that .... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sa6kK99McBk&feature=related"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sa6kK99McBk&feature=related[/ame] To lessen my troubles I stopped hanging out with vultures And empty saviours like you I wish I had a nickel for every miracle That you so easily tricked me into You can lead a horse to water But faith is another matter So don't you surrender Cause sometimes salvation's In the eye of the storm I've no time for accusations Or conversations on all the bad, bad, bad things that you do. Just a note from the jailor: "Drugs end the relations To all the people around you" You can lead a horse to water But faith is another matter So don't you surrender Cause sometimes salvation's In the eye of the storm I've kept secret your superstitions And all its twisted wisdom That I fell into You can lead a horse to water But faith is another matter So don't you surrender Cause sometimes salvation's In the eye of the storm Sister, can you try and find me?
Musical box by genesis [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbniFGANrac"]The Musical Box -- Genesis‏ - YouTube[/ame] Play me old king cole That I may join with you, All your hearts now seem so far from me It hardly seems to matter now. And the nurse will tell you lies Of a kingdom beyond the skies. But I am lost within this half-world, It hardly seems to matter now. Play me my song. Here it comes again. Play me my song. Here it comes again. Just a little bit, Just a little bit more time, Time left to live out my life. Play me my song. Here it comes again. Play me my song. Here it comes again. Old king cole was a merry old soul, And a merry old soul was he. So he called for his pipe, And he called for his bowl, And he called for his fiddlers three. But the clock, tick-tock, On the mantlepiece - And I want, and I feel, and I know, and I touch, Her warmth... Shes a lady, she's got time, Brush back your hair, and let me get to know your face. Shes a lady, she is mine. Brush back your hair, and let me get to know your flesh. Ive been waiting here for so long And all this time has passed me by It doesnt't't seem to matter now You stand there with your fixed expression Casting doubt on all I have to say. Why don't you touch me, touch me, Why don't you touch me, touch me, Touch me now, now, now, now, now.
Probably most of System of a Downs stuff and Serjs own work. They put a load of emphasis into songs. Along with Tool, A perfect circle, Metallica etc. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnGdoEa1tPg&ob=av3e"]System Of A Down - Lonely Day‏ - YouTube[/ame] There's a whole bunch of different meanings for the song.
One of the most gifted writers who ever lived. The Pogues were a shining light in my dark days, almost drank myself to death a few times listening to them. You don't have to be an alchoholic to appreciate Shane, but it probably helps. This song was put to great use in the wire, the best TV show ever made. Someone else of renowned lyrical wit. Your bones will build my palaces, your eyes will stud my crown. This band mean a lot to me, I was never a huge fan when I was a real metalhead. But after growing out of metal I found myself loving them. The only metal band that never make me cringe. Loved The Pogues...Rum, Sodomy and the Lash, especially. Never saw 'em after MacGowan left and Joe Strummer joined. That would've been a blast. "A Pair of Brown Eyes" and the traditional "I'm a Man You Don't Meet Everyday" - loved Caitlín O'Riordan's voice on that one - my favourites.
I've got a couple of chestnuts from 'Head posted somewhere here ( reminds me, I've to start lookin for Hannibal ) Played "No Sleep Til Hammersmith" till I was nearly deaf. Which incidently was recorded in Newcastle , I think - not London. Being a motorhead means ya canna sleep anyroad...
I used to run everywhere with this song blaring through my earphones. Its pretty epic. It made me feel like I was ninja for some reason. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzX_zXL2Xxk&feature=channel_video_title"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PzX_zXL2Xxk&feature=channel_video_title[/ame]
No sleep was recorded in Newcastle? never heard that. Here's another from the great man after he left the pogues. I know its been said a lot but it absolutley amazes me that he's still alive. People seem to have been saying "that Shane Mcgowan he's a genuis, but he's not long for this world", for around twenty years. Ya, he's infamous for whiskey and stout. But that gaunt, skelleton-eyed look aint from drinking, its from something else - I know, I used to see it in the mirror. Shane got back with the Pogues recently did a 10 city North American tour. Supposedly its to be their last in the States.

There are a bunch of them. But here's a random sampling: 1) The Proclaimers: I would walk 500 miles (unofficial "our song" for my wife and I) 2) You Say Tomato, I Say Tomato (whomever sang that) (our official wedding song; on account of my being British and her American) 3) Amazing Grace, played on the bagpipes (played at my younger sister's funeral a couple of years back) 4) Jamie Cullum's "Gran Torino." This one doesn't have any specific event associated with it. But this song, taken with the movie, is unbelievably cathartic.
