People still buy Chris Brown's music, people will still watch Mayweather fight.

People have supported fighters through a lot more, Tyson comes to mind. Plus, just because I like being a douche, that story doesn't give a lot of context behind why he assualted her. I don't buy into the whole not hitting women thing so I may be sympathetic yet.

The only reason to hit anyone, let alone a woman, is self defence. He has never tried to make that argument.

Legally I agree and I'm happy he's being punished for it but on a personal moral type level I can think of times other than self defence I've wanted to hit someone

Not to question your personal code, or that of your generation, but I'm glad I was brought up by men who saw this as anathema and who bred in me feelings of utter contempt for those resorting to violence against women.

But then, I am getting on a bit and realise these archaic views don't have much currency amongst you young 'uns.

Wanting to hit someone and hitting someone are two extremely different things. I want to hit loads of people, but I'm not a psycho.

Doesn't stop you from being a scumbag if you act upon those urges.

There just doesn't seem to be much logic behind it. Unless of course you believe all women are dainty, frail little things that need protecting from the overwhelming power of all the manly men. This mostly comes from my views on equality though: I believe in the whole androgynous thing and don't really agree with any kind of difference of treatment between any sex, race, species, whatever. In order to be consistent that includes my views on punching them.

Yeah, but would you punch a man because he is ****ing you off?

Ah, so it's Socialist/feminist wife-beating you advocate. I understand now, sorry.

Yet yesterday you were backing someone else who committed an illegal assault because you sympathised with him. Two very different cases, same principle.

'Course not. But just because I think someone's a muppet doesn't stop me understanding why they did what they did even if I disagree with it.

Not completely sure you understand what socialism is but yeah call it that if you want. Noticed you avoided my question about why exactly no one should hit a woman.

    edit:
I started a fight with someone for insulting my mum while she was in hospital so yeah I guess so. So would nearly anyone else if you pushed them hard enough.

I was merely applauding the egalitarianism of your worldview.

And if I have to explain why not, then I am afraid you are not the kind of person I wish to continue dialogue with.

Enjoy life (and pray none of your paramours have family/friends who will end you).

Southy, I don't think androgynous means what you think it means.

Ah, well then I don't see the point of you replying to me in the first place. I'll also take it as admittance I was right about why when I said you think women are just weak.

Try reading. When did I ever say I'm going to happily beat the crap out of my partner? My point was that I disagree with the idea that you can never hit a woman, not that abuse is cool. But of course because I said hitting a woman shouldn't be treated differently to hitting a man that means I plan on systematically throat punching every woman I come across.

It would explain my D in Politics. I'm fairly sure it means containing both male and female traits but when I was taught it it was used to describe treatment of people as people with no notice being paid to their gender. Happy to be told I'm wrong but I like the word :p

There is a thread going at the moment about rowdy women. I think that fits in well with this; There are some scary **** women out there that have no qualms about hitting anyone, male or female. It is only through social "education" that the general populace finds it abhorent if a man hits a woman but amusing if the woman hits the man.

Re: the argument about hitting a woman because of self defence vs other non contact reasons (such as verbal abuse, mental etc.) What is the correct course of action when a stranger accosts you in the street and is verbally abusive? I suppose ignore it and walk away is the wise thing to do. What if it is your wife/husband that verbally abuses you, ridicules and embarrasses you? Divorce? Slightly more difficult and a hell of a lot more complex (emotionally).
I'm obviously not talking about punching your spouse because they call you a numpty for spilling the milk, however systematic mental abuse can make a person snap and behave as they would not normally.

For the record i have never hit any of my partners although i came very close once; lucky the social conditioning is strong eh?
