English translation - Kind of spoils it, doesn't it Stuart?
    Hi Stuart,
I don't speak Korean very well, practicing it here sounds good.
My name is Klaas, I am from the Netherlands. To practice hapkido I went to Korea in 2004 and 2005
I also used to study at Yonsei.
Especially my writing went very bad. I used http://endic.naver.com/ to write this message.

the translation for the above thread:

Hello, i know there must be someone here that speaks Korean right?

My name is Stuart and i have lived in Korea for about 2 years, i came here to train mma.

I was accepted to study at Yonsei University but because i didnt do too well in the Korean exam at the time i couldnt study this year. Maybe i can study there next year, but because i have little money thesedays i may not be able to.

I studied Korean from books, but have also studied for a while at a language institute. Thesedays i have a korean girlfriend and we speak using only Korean, so i know i have to study hard! She said to me that i mustn't forget how to speak Korean, so i have to make an effort :p so lets speak in Korean here about anything!

Its ok if we only speak korean here right? (obviously not :p) send a reply!

and if we make mistakes, if we let each other know and corrected them it would be good~

    have a nice day, fighting!!

Hi Stuart, normal forum rules are English only. However, in the language forums the specific language itself is allowed, provided a translation is given alongside it.

I know it's extra work, but I hope you understand it's because we don't have many multi-lingual mods.

    Thanks. :)

    translation:

    Hello, Klaas

wow, the website that you used to translate seems good, however there are some spelling mistakes

I was accepted to study physical education at Yonsei university.

When you lived in Korea, where did you stay? In Seoul right?

Thesedays i got to the gym 4days a week and this month i have another fight. I also had a fight in April which i won, but this time i will have more confidence so itle be easier than the last i guess. My coach said if i win my next 3 or 4 fights he can then negotiate with the mma company (SpiritMC) and maybe i can fight professionally in the near future! Its gonna be great!

Its actually pretty funny for me to say this, because of another post I made saying I had no interest in learning Korean, but I'm actually fairly fluent in Korean these days. I've been dating a Korean girl for the past year, and most of our spare time is spent hanging out with her army of Korean friends, watching Korean dramas and movies, going to Korean BBQ and hanging out in Korean bars. In the past 3 months, I don't think I've had an English conversation out side of work.

I can't read or write in Korean, it looks like the most Alien language i've ever seen. With that said, I may go teach English there one day. I really like the Korean way of life. Watching Korean dramas, eating BBQ, and getting smashed on So Ju. Not to mention that Korean girls are HOT! I also have an army of Korean mates who have gone back there after doing working holidays here in Australia, so I think going there would be one massive party. ;)

Asian languages are my favourite. I can currently speak Thai and Korean and i'm working on Japanese atm. its great being a white guy that can speak Asian languages. You should see a pretty Asian girls face when some tall, skin head white guy comes up and speaks to her in her language fluently. It shouldn't be this easy to pick up :D.

So anyway, my fellow Korean Language enthusiasts . 안녕하세요 (yes I did type that, other than my name, thats all I know.)

쓰기 못하면 말하기 어떠게 한국어를 배울수있습니까?

    단어 쯤 배울수있지만 문법 못배울것같아요.

    한글 너무 싑습니다.

If you can't write, how can you learn to speak Korean?
You can learn some words, but learning grammar seems difficult.
    Hangul is very easy.

The same way I learnt to speak English. From mimiking and listening to the sounds. By the time you learn to read and write in your native language, you are already fluent in speak it. Why should learning a new language be any different.

I had to learn French and Japanese while I was at school. We learnt to speak by learning to read. Our accents were terrible, and we gave up because it was rediculously hard.

Words are just symbols for sounds. When you learn to speak first, you understand thoes sounds instantly, and find learning to read and write much faster.

I hope you realize how ignorant and racist this sounds.

Have you ever heard the terms "Asian fetish", "yellow fever", "white worship", or "white privilege"?

You're helping to contribute to the exotification and over-sexualization of Asian women with this post.

  15. NaughtyKnight

    NaughtyKnight Has yellow fever!

Judging by my user title, I think I know what "yellow fever is". ;)

White privilege doesn't fit here. That would presupose that a white person is given some sort of benefit, over a non white person in similar circumstances. This is not the case here. Certainly, it looks like "White privilege" at face value, but this is definatly not the case.

When a white man speaks an Asian language fluently, Asian women practically throw themselves at him. On the opposite end of the spectrum, if an Asian man speaks fluent English, white women show complete indifference. This has absolutely nothing to do with White Privilege, but more to do with the fact that 95% of all white people are completly ignorent of other people's cultures. How many white men speak ANY language other than their own? If they do speak other languages, it is pretty much guaranteed that it isn't an Asian language. As always, its a case of being different, not of a different race, that catches female attention.

Big LOL at your "White privilege" rant btw.

  16. MadMonk108

    MadMonk108 JKD/Kali Instructor

It is the white man's privilege to be able to pick and choose women from every culture, thanks to centuries of colonialism that has brainwashed outside cultures to view white as "right".

The fact that you proudly wear a badge of "has yellow fever" is sickening. It's racism at its deepest core. You've bragged, in this thread, about your "Asian girlfriend". She's a trophy to you, her ethnicity is the thing that matters to you, at least that's the impression we get from your post.

Seriously, your post is racially offensive. I've chosen to address this to you personally rather than going behind your back and reporting it.

With the impression you give from your post, you're the kind of white guy I'd never let near my sister. Thankfully, she wouldn't date a yellow fever case either.

  17. NaughtyKnight

    NaughtyKnight Has yellow fever!

Rofl, what has being "White" got to do with being able to pick up? I think claiming that anyone that isn't white can't pick up is being racist, not stating that you enjoy women of a certain ethnicity. Perhaps, if I were screwing Asian girls to degrade them and assertain my dominence, that would be racist. Getting down and dirty with hot girls is hardly degarding. I think you confusing normal dating with what thoes dirty old men do in Asia.

As for my gf. She is drop dead gorgeous, and has an ass you could bounce a pin off. Thats the reason I date her. I wouldn't go anywhere near an ugly Asian girl, same with an ugly White girl etc. Being Asian is like icing on the cake, since I find Asian girls much prettier than women of other ethnicities.

I gather from your post that you don't date outside your own ethnicity. Is this from choice? Or because you have convinced yourself so much that you have to be white to date other cultures? I have heaps of Asian mates that try and convince me that I have some sort of advantage being European. They claim that they just can't pick up because they are "short, skinny, average" etc etc. I think the main reason they don't pick up is because on Friday night, when I'm out socialising, they are at home playing DDR or WII sports.

Anyway, I think its time to get back on thread. Madmonk cleary has some kind of white priverledge complex.... Say allo to your sister for me ;).

I don't think Madmonk is saying he doesn't date outside his ethnic group. I think he is saying that professing to have yellow fever and revelling in the fact that being White and speaking a little bit of an Asian language gives you instant access to beautiful Asian women is quite racist. It's hard to take race out of the equation when it's clear that it is probably the determining factor- a Thai guy who speaks Korean would be rare as well but I doubt it gives him the 'easy' access your mentioning and which Madmonk is saying is the legacy of colonialism.

You sure aren't earning any brownie points with the ladies with this attitude. A woman wants to be loved for who she IS, not just how she looks.

Looks change, accidents happen. It's what's inside that lasts.
