i wouldn't say gold is a universally good investment. like any other investment, gold has had peaks and valleys over time. it's not even at a historic high now and is trending downward, because it was so inflated. and like you say, there's also a hidden cost-to-carry, because banks and other institutions are not housing one's gold out of the goodness of their hearts. also gold and land are not liquid--yet another hidden cost.

Self defense. I am by no means stuck on the knife, its just I have put in a lot of time with it. I have taught myself close quarters knife combat via materials published by the US military. I have also spent thousands of hours learning to throw the K-Bar with a half spin from 5-50 feet. I can hit a wood block the size of a dinner plate 9 times outa 10 from 40 ft. that being said I have looked at the laws and it looks like it is illegal to carry... so I am looking for a new weapon. Any ideas?
