I can usually only knock out 35-40. But if I push myself harder, I can get 55. Of course, I haven't tried maxing out since May. :D

The last time I tested myself was in a mates flat after a night out. Did it kinda to impress a girl.

Stopped when I got bored, I was training at the gym three times a week for two hours, so it wasn't difficult. One guy matched me, but it near did him in.

Did I impress the girl? She married me, so I guess I did!

growing up in the 80's, i was a great fit (no video games, computer, black and white tv, and lots of imgianation, i was very good shape for a kid) i used to be able to do over 120 pushups in a row. right now, i probably do 100 with 50 lousy forms, LOL. i could do 50 pushups in good form, then form get worse after 50s.

yeah, it not hard to do, you do like 50 to 75 pushup almost daily, then 120 is easy. if you dont do any pushups, yeah 120 is hard! i've been slacking off pushups lately and 50 is hard. LOL

I could probably have done 100 in a row a few year back when I was doing Shotokan.

    some sets went like:
    1 pushup, situp, squatkick
    2 pushups, situps, squatkicks,
    3 " "
    4 " "
    5
    ..
    10
    ..
    ..
    3..
    2..
    1..

    for brown belt gradings.

My sensei had to do 30 in a row on his first ever karate lesson.

Just came off an experiment from bodyweightculture. Site members were broken into different groups and given different ways of improving push up stamina.

I was asked to do a ladder progression over 8 weeks

Started by working out what my one max set was - 46 - and taking a quarter of it - 11

Week One (6 out of 7 days)1 push up - 60 secs rest - 2 push ups - 60 secs rest - 3 push ups, etc to 11 push ups
Week 2 Add set of 12 on the end, cut rest to 55secs
Week 3 Add set 13 on the end, cut rest to 50 secs
    ..and so on.

By the end I was up to 18 sets and my one set max was 102. I had to take a week out in the middle for a sore shoulder, and couldn't do any other chest exercises.

My bench press was marginally worse, my punching speed and stamina better. And I could do plyo press ups, which Id always struggled with

I stopped doing it and the benefits appear to have gone as well - mind you I've been ill for a month.
