Taebo is the better of karate or judo. Better for what? The styles are drastically different in their philosophy and techniques, the only common ground is that they're both japanese and wear gis. also, Karate is a generic term for a crazy amount of japanese styles, which of these styles did you have in mind?

I voted on the poll, but it's really a rather strange question.

One not better than the other, its down to the individual's preferences. If you can, do them both, it'll cover all ranges.

Judo. Anyone who says different can come down and I'll show them why! (There. Is that the response you were looking for?)

Now this is an interesting question, better for what? It's also a loaded question (posted in the karate forum). Having been a practitioner of both I could tell you my opinion.

Karate taught properly has limited throwing and grappling.
Judo taught properly has limited atemi (striking).

It also depends on the exponent of the art, the level they train at etc.

All in all a pretty daft question, do you want to throw some parameters on it? Oh, and welcome to the boards! ;)

I only posted this poll to cause controversy

This sort of thing has been done to death before on the forum, and why post of controversy's sake?

Bit of a lame excuse. (But considering it didn't work, what the hell!).

traditional judo is all the throws of karate taken and expanded so i would say karate if youstudied it long enough

Ummmmm, no it's not. Judo is taken from JiuJutsu.

Judo is invincible. If I were a real man, I'd do judo instead of BJJ, but I'm a hugger. :)

Hey, at least in posting incorrect information, JHughes also managed some major thread necromancy...

Karate is better than Judo, because it has more letters in its name.

No I am right. I sutied JiuJutsu and Judo. Judo is not taken from Karate. It is taken from JiuJutsu. Kano Jigoro, the founder of Judo, studied JiuJutsu for many years at the Tenjin Shin'yō-ryū. He was forever developing new ideas about JiuJutsu, and later reformed of Jiujutsu, developing techniques based on science i.e. body mechanics.
