Anyone know much about karate jutsu? found a local class that does this - says there base style is Shotokan but they incorporate different elements into it? thanks andy
The people I've come across who claim to teach Karate "jutsu" opposed to "do" seem to push the more combative elements . Have you got a link to a site ?
Sounds like the kind of set up I'd run if inclined , best advise at this point is pop along and see if it suits you.

I looked into it, they lost me when they said Tai Chi/ Pressure points. Not dissing Tai chi but I mean really.
I wouldn't jump quite so quickly. I thought Terry Wingrove had a pretty good reputation as someone who genuinely knows a shed load about jujutsu/karate? You're not mixing him up with Harry Cooke are you?
He seems to have a reputation of being a bit rough with his ukes , however , the bio just implies the teacher has trained with him/been influenced by him , not that he's part of the group.
theres a massive thread on this forum about him, im going along on Tuesday, see what its all about anyway I think just as long as no one puts me out cold with a chop to the neck
Then you heard wrong, training a few times with old koryu teachers does not an expert make. But I cant speak for his karate skills.
I think is a lot of pinching type stuff, really painful.make sure you don't leave your credit card details or there will be even more pinching once it's all done.
I don't think he markets himself as a historical recreationist, does he? Whether or not he's "koryu" has little relevance to whether he knows lots of painful places to poke you.
We are fortunate to have a world renowned expert in Karate Jutsu, Sensei Terry Wingrove (9th Dan) who teaches at our club couple of times a month
Hi Dean - I remember the thread; I started it! But I also remember that people who'd trained with Terry posted on the thread to say that he knew what he was doing and while incredibly painful, he didn't leave any damage to them. I have no personal experience one way or the other, but I know Mike Flanagan who used to post here spoke highly of his skill so I wouldn't be wary of his name in the same way I would George Dilman or such like.
