Hi guys. I wrestled on my high school team for three years but have stopped this year as it interfered with Shaolin Kempo. But i miss grappling as i need to be able to fight on the ground(kempo is all striking, our instructor does very little ground work in class)
Do you think I can learn more through videos/books? If so can you recommend anything. I have a feel for grappling but wrestling has no submissions/locks/chokes. Thanks

P.S. I think i can do some BJJ in summer(i hope it ain't a McDojo)

Hmmmmm well I'm probably not the best person to advise because I have not done any ground work until a few months ago. But I find it very difficult to learn the fine points of a technique from a video or book. Not so much the submissions, more so the positions and escapes.

Nothing is better if you can find it that a training partner who you can learn with.

If you can go to a BJJ school the go for it, if it is any good, you'll be learning new stuff in no time :D

Thanks. I have a training partner, my brother studies just like me and wants to branch out into other things than Kempo. My Kempo instructor would also let us use the dojo at off times. I just figured out wrestling can get me killed and I'll have to modify it for street grappling. I saw UFC VI last night, the traditional wrestlers all got choked out by shooting a takedown the "wrestling way".(Shamrock vs. Severn)
    Thanks.

Acekicken: It says in your profile that you teach in NY. Do you teach submission wrestling or arnis and where? Over the summer I want to do more grappling as school gets in the way now. Submission wrestling seems worth a try.

Maybe in the summer I'll try to get there. I don't know how I'll get there but that's not important right now. You see I'm only 16 and live in Holbrook on Long Island. Hopefully I'll have my license to drive in June so it's possible. It's not that far away from me.
