Hey, im going to be joining a new club, and which ever one it is it will require me to run there because they are far away, so i need to run there.

Thing is i get shin splints. I dont know if it is shin splints as its not PAINFUL, its just a feeling there, that has symptoms of shin splins.

I tried to take it light, do small steps, it doesnt seem to help much, so i think it could be the shoes. But im not sure, im no expert, i know some of you are though.

I got a few pics of the shoes i run in.

They are a bit dirty, ignore that :p Its winter now so its bound to get muddy :D

Anyways would you say these are bad according to the pictures?

I have little to no experience in running except what i learned during PE classes which i believe still remain with me today.

I will be needing to run about a mile or so there and back, probably will be walking back as ill be too tiered to run back :p

Walk. I thought you were too skint to pay for Judo, so why fork out for shoes you don't need?

I think you prefer thinking about training to actually training.

Well i could walk but its going to take a long time to walk there. I have school, homework and coursework to do so im not always free to just take as long as i want.

Hey i could pay for judo, like i said it was the starting fee that was really high.

I havnt tried out boxing before, i need to try it out and see if i like it. If i like it, i might join, if i like it more than judo ill join, if i dont ill probably join judo. I havnt thrown judo out the window you know :) Its still in my mind, but Boxing is just one of those other options.

I mean at first i thought judo would be "boring" and "not my style" but then i tried it i really liked it. But then again i dont know how i will react to boxing, so i like to plan things ahead.

Anyways if your here to just go on about how i "prefer to think" about training rather than "actually train" then you can go create a new thread in the off topic section where you can talk all about me. Where you got this idea I'm really not too sure :/

But if your going to post, please just answer the question? Do you think they are good? Bad?

You can't walk a mile in under half an hour?

Why waste money on shoes you don't need?

For clarity: the answer to your question is... bad.

If you're having problems with your feet or anything related, then the first thing you need to do is see a podiatrist. There are also specialized shoe stores that will take scans of your feet in order to find the best fit for you. Shoes aren't too expensive, but injuries related to having the wrong shoes can be.

true but running is very important. I mean it's the best type or cardio and man was built to run. being unable to run because of pain is depressing :(

also swimming is expensive after school (4 pounds for one ticket!) . bikes cost more than running shoes. running is relaxing anyway and good cardio. even jump roping needs good shoes correct?

I was always told by my Tangsoodo teacher that if your not fit you should not be sparring. or something along the lines of that.

but thank you for your answer. I appreciate you taking your time to answer my question.

but why do you think it is bad?

    thank you hapuka :)

We can't tell if the shoes are good or bad for you because we don't know what your natural running action and what those shoes are designed for. You need to go to a specialist running shop and run on a treadmill whilst they watch or video you to analyse your running action. They will then be able to tell you if those shoes are OK.

Running is excellent cardio but can be very hard on your joints, ask me how I know :) Running on roads is particularly hard. If you have shin problems I wouldn't advise it. I doubt you have shin splints as such, when I had them they were one of the most painful injuries I've ever had, but if you get grief from running don't do it!

You should be able to walk a mile easily in 20 minutes, less if you get a move on.

I'm no a shoe or foot expert, but I know I have serious problems with my feet myself and I've had injuries in the past as a result. So when buying shoes, I always go to my podiatrist who makes me a pair of insert soles, and I go to the best local shoe specialist available. Usually a podiatrist will be able to recommend a pair of shoes, but I also like to make sure that I'm getting the best fit for my feet, thats why I go to a specialist. The price is nothing in compassion to dealing with serious injuries that can inhibit you for life.

Take a look in the mirror and analyze your feet, what do your feet look like?

I think my feet are more pronation. I took a good long hard look at the mirror and it seems it.

I would not call it painful. Its more of a slight pain on the shins. When i do get the pain, i only feel it when i go on the balls of my feet. When i do heel running i feel no pain at all. But when i do fore foot running it hurts more.

Also if i do get the pain, and i squat down, and push my hamstrings onto my calves so they calves are pushed to the side around the shin bone then i feel pain. But after about 3 days the pain is completely gone! Then i start running a bit again and it comes back! Its annoying -_-

Its not near as painful as how you describe it.

Ok, if you have pronated feet like myself, first thing is first, go see a podiatrist. I know first hand of the injuries related to having pronated feet and they ain't fun. Clearly you're having problems as a result, so chances are you don't have the right shoes for your feet.
