Well after lurking for ages I thought I'd say hello :D

I train at Cambridge Academy of Martial Arts in Savate, I teach La Canne, study some Kali and the occasional bit of Panatukan.

But as La caanne falls under the WMA tag I thought a few of you might be interested.

Hello there, and welcome to MAP. Is that Cambridge in England you are from, or another one?

    Dear Broken French Bloke,

There's probably about fifty in the USA. (Er, I can think of one, anyway.)

Your profile thingy doesn't specify your location. I was curious to know if the martial arts school thingy you mentioned was in this country. I imagined it was probably in the USA.

Tell us more about it. It sounds interesting.

    Cheers.

    Brise,

Thanks for the link. I read about the history of Savate with interest, and I'll read some more soon.

    Cheers.

    La Canne!

Welcome to the WMA section Brise....

I'm into Singlestick but would love to see some La Canne in action :D
Can you tell me about the type of cane that you use, is it common old garden cane or a stronger type? What size & diameter?

    Cheers!

    Hi Louie,

We use a sweet chesnut cane approx. 95cm and 140g for competions, and a heavier cane for practice, maybe 180g.

There are some piccys from the recent world championships on Reunion Island at:

    http://www.afcoi.com/~canne/canne/photomonde1.php

and if your french is OK some technical stuff at:

    http://cannecombat.com/index.php

    Cheers

PS I'll ask my Instructor if I can link to and artical he has written, if not I'll try to knock up a short history :)
