the only thing I can think of is Joy Division - had a different name, lineup change after Ian's ... no that's not it, BOLLOCKS
I'd skipped over "Love Will..." but the only thing that comes close is the two guitars - one is doing the eigth-notes "dan-dan-dan" and the second guitar comes in over it ringing chords - down stroke/upstroke double timed "babom" and then downstrumed (bom), then the drums come in with that.. "Love Will Tear Us Apart"
GET IN!!! Yeps, I thought it would be too easy but it was so damn hard to write that guitar / drum intro. The bom-bom BOM was supposed to be the drums . Over to you Belltoller. And welcome to MAP's best thread...for 5 of us!
I accept the crown and the terrible burden of office that it bestoweth...ahem...and now this... I'll keep the post-punk genre - the song is one I'd wanted to do after TAKING CONTROL ... ahaah, ahaah, ahaaah ... :: Belltoller laughs maniacally:: Its going to be difficult because it has one of the more complicated bass lines played by one of the best bassmen outside of jazz and has a concurrent guitar part playing a different melody at a different time signature altogether. Hint: Spoiler the original 'post punk' band Hint: Spoiler the singer for this band went from one of the worst bass players in rock in his previous band to one of the best bass players. Of course I've already given Boris the Walking Music Catalogue enough hints if he opened the spoilers, that he's undoubtedly sussed the band and song before I've even to come up with a passable bassline... Bass - boop boop - deboop deboop - boo boo boo boop boop - deboop deboop - boo boo boo now it gets complicated...move to a higher octave and begin playing the same scale - except it begins sliding quickly through the notes flats and sharpes in ascending scale pattern boop boop - deboop deboop -dedoo dedooo dedooooo dedoooooo now the bass returns to original octave and it repeats like this boop boop - deboop deboop - boo boo boo boop boop - deboop deboop - boo boo boo the bass player is actually playing all up and down the fretboard very quickly guitar - E|--5--------4--------------------------------4-----| B|--------------------7--------5--------7-----------| G|-----6--------6--------6--------6--------6-----6--| Play this 4 times. D|--------7--------7--------7--------7--------------| A|--------------------------------------------------| E|--------------------------------------------------| E|--7--------6--------------------------------6-----| B|--------------------9--------7--------9-----------| G|-----8--------8--------8--------8--------8-----8--| Play this 2 times. Correction: This is a better take on the guitar part: ---------------------|-------3-0------------| ---------------------|-----------3-0--------| ------7-7-7----------|---------------2^F^p0-| --2---7-7-7--7-7-7---|-X-X-X----------------| --2---5-5-5--7-7-7---|-X-X-X----------------| --0----------5-5-5---|-X-X-X----------------| ---------------------|----------------------| ---------------------|----------------------| ------7-7-7----------|----------------------| --2---7-7-7--7-7-7---|----------------------| --2---5-5-5--7-7-7---|--2---2---2---2-------| --0----------5-5-5---|----4---5---6---7\----| Having troubles? lol Spoiler The singer was and is universally recognised and an icon in himself. He was the front man for the most notorious, if not somewhat, er ... contrived...of the original punk scene bands. The brilliant bass player was considered for the original band but someone else was chosen. The bass man lasted for two albums by the post-punk band. He has 4 kids and two of them are actresses.
Oooh...so it's not a singer / bass player? Original punk scene...now, let's not start the usual debate here, but are we talking US / NY, or UK / London?...Or even proto / 60s era?
I know johnny rotten of the pistols, who famously had a bass player that they didn't plug in live, sang in Public Image. That could be the band based on the clues but I don't know any of their tracks..
And they were one of the most contrived and notorious bands. Lydon is an icon. But the bass player stuff confuses me. It doesn't fit in with either Matlock or John Simon Richie... Is it PIL's Public Image or whatever its called?
Haha...Don't listen to them. I wasn't sure if the song was called Public Image LTD or just Public Image. Man, I was confused, I thought it was a singer / bassist. Then the "original" punk scene threw me. It had to be Pistols related, but original scene??...The Stooges....MC5...Talking Heads... Back in a bit for more!
Here's one for ya! Hint: Spoiler The intro isn't a rock instrument, it could be, but usually isn't. A very old song. Covered by many. Bwa bwaaaa bwaaaaaaa bwwwwaaaaaa Bwa bwa bwa-bwa bwaaaaaa BWAAA BWAAAA BWWWWWAAAAA bwa bwa-bwaaa bwa-bwwwaaaaaaaaaaa Bwa bwa-bwa-bwaaaaaaa...bwwwaaaaaaaa EDIT: - ERM...It is my go right?
Not that original - as in truly original. 'Widely known' would've made a better choice of words...pop media a gullible lot they are. PIL - fronted by John Lydon, keith Levene guitar and Jah Wobble on bass. It's getting more and more difficult to get online without constant interuptions here at the radgie hoose, lol. Peace n stuff to all
