Front Lever Swings - how to get there?

I'm working on a training routine to both increase general core strength and endurance for MA, and to strengthen my back for archery.

I recently came across [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9OwNtJmv8s"]this video[/ame] which has introduced me to Front Lever Swings! Having tried it I discovered that most of the body was willing, but the area of weakness that stopped me being able to lift myself was the musculature in the centre of the back between the shoulder blades (roughly were one's thumb can reach when twisting one's arm around).

Even though I failed miserably to do it, I immediately realised that this is the area I need to develop for archery, as well as developing upper body strength for MA.

So, can anyone recommend how I might train myself up to achieve Front Lever Swings and, ultimately, the Front Lever Hold?

Exercises I already perform for back and shoulders include pull-ups, incline pushups with both wide and high hand positions, lat rows, shoulder front and side raises, etc.

    Cheers

    Hello
I know this is the Bodyweight Section. So you might be expecting a Bodyweight answer....? But....

One of the best exercises for strengthening your back for archery and building those muscles between your shoulder blades. (And indeed your entire upper girdle) are Archer's Pulls (Bow and Arrow) using heavy resistance cables.

In fact any pulling an pushing motion using heavy resistance cables are 1) Really hard work 2) most useful to your purpose.

Here's a couple of Vids of different Cable Resistance type pulls and pushes (Strand Pulling) you can do - Including the Archer's Pull:

    Strand Pulling for Shoulder Stability:

    Good Luck
