    No it doesn't. Here's why:

    http://martialartsplanet.com/forums/showpost.php?p=34111639&postcount=170

Blocking and counterattacking do not yield the same results.

To me that's exactly what blocking entails, i.e. giving in.

Nope, but I'm not an instructor and don't represent anything but myself.

You don't need to be an instructor to post a video and you don't need to represent any particular style.

Saved in Blood posted a video recently in the FMA forum and he's been doing online training for only a few weeks.

He basically posted saying, "is this okay?". Check out the thread and look at the positive replies he had.

[quote-Kagete]Mmmmm...no they don't. They say third time's the charm - there's a huge difference in mentality between blocking and counter-offense.[/quote]

Then they must be making mistakes then because I can see quite a few blocks in this video

But he doesn't have an instructor to tell him if it is ok or not, does he? I do.

That's what I thought. I practice Pekiti and I don't see any blocks. I've noticed that you haven't adressed what I've written about the difference in mentality between blocking and counter-offense - I'm going to assume you're either building up for an epic comeback, or it's something you haven't paid any attention to previously.

A block if done correctly is a counter attack

    Not necessarily.

Because you don't understand or train blocking, again perspective.

I wasn't intending to be silly. I can think of a few other people way more deserving of being told that than myself.

Or because you don't understand or train counter-offense (which, btw, includes parries, which is not synonymous with blocking).

to block incorrectly is to get hit.

Counter-offense is to hit in order to prevent getting hit.

And to be honest in that video it was not a clear perspective of blocking correctly, he assumed the person blocking is going to step back from a power shot, this in its self opens you up to another strike so yes ineffective blocking.

Not necessarily. I'd ask if you see where I'm going with this, but I think I'll refrain.
