gym and massive headaches, even when just skipping rope. 600Mg ibupr no . ? Now its that some of the letters are gone read what I'm typing. Like the page in half and glued together. Just white fuzz. Funny though...can't tell which eye it is.

Mind you, I do have bad allergies to dust, pollen and the like as well. They can cause these headaches. Anyone get blank – out spots in their vision from allergies?

    confounded Ohio Valley mould

Headaches and migraine can cause visual disturbances but you should probably go to the Drs.

Problems with vision and head pain is something that needs checking.

Strongly advise you get to your doctor asap, mate. Last thing you need is blacking out when you've got a 120kg barbell held overhead while you're in an ATG squat. :D

I find ibuprofen better for muscle aches and pains than headaches. You tried taking 400mg ibuprofen with 2 x 500mg paracetamol?

Seconded. Also, go and see a doctor. They'll be able to give you better advice than strangers on a MA forum :p

As an interesting point, your brain sorts visual info by left and right "visual fields" rather than eyes. So if it's in your head then you'll be getting blind spots in your left or right visual fields which will affect both eyes.

    Thanks fellows.

They've scheduled CTs, an MRI and a bacterial culture for this coming week.

Do the visual things happen before the headache? My vision goes funny when I'm about to get a massive migraine that usually lasts a good week. It's like everything has an aura to it, kind of hazy looking. Sometimes I'll get a white flash in my vision, sometimes I'll look at something and look away and a "shadow image" is still there, sometimes spots, etc.. Disorientation comes with it at its worst points. I don't get the "ache" part of the headache though, just a numb feeling which recently stays in the left/front hemisphere of my brain.

The strangest thing for me is in the peak of a migraine, everything looks "funny." I can't describe it any other way, things just don't look the same for some reason. I'm sure that has more to do with my head injury in general though. Anywho, if you see weird vision stuff before the migraine comes on it's called an "aura" which indicates a migraine is coming on. Not especially useful info. unless you have medication you take at that point in time to prevent the migraine.

Have you been dinged on the head in the last few weeks during training at all? Even something you may have thought was normal stuff getting knocked around?

Ya, I'd come home from boxing class several times in a row with the most god-awful headaches I've ever had in my life - so bad I wanted to puke.

However; as it turns out, there was no concussion. The sparring just unmasked something that has been developing for a while. Probably did me a favour by finally getting me to pay attention to it.

I'd had surgery last June to take out some very nasty infection that'd been slowly accumulating in the left side of my head - the result of battling some sort of strange bacterial/viral hybrid of Streptobacillary Fever - for nearly a year.

Long story. Anyroads, this infection had eaten a hole in the left tympanic membrane, gotten into the mastoid process behind the skull was eating away at whatever it could find in there and then opened up a third front in the nasal linings where it was threatening the blood-brain barrier! LOL - just my luck to have the micro bacterial equivalent of General Rommel waging war inside my head.

The main doc had sussed that there were some fluid build up and had wanted me to have another surgery a month or so ago, but due to me being the primary caretaker for my kids most of the time now, I put off having it done for me when Mrs. Beltoller would be around to help manage, but it seems to have caught up with us.

I know what you mean regarding the auras - and no, the headaches and visual phenomena seem to be independent of each other.

The visual blind spots came on at the end of a fairly vigorous cardio session

Sorry to hear about your troubles.

The best advice has already been given. - see a qualified medical professional as soon as possible. Given your medical history I would make it a specialist rather than a GP.

It does sound as though you are describing a migraine - visual disturbances, extreme pain, dissynes or loss of balance, and nausea, are all common symptoms.

These effects are often made worse by physical activity.

Yes, thank you - I've done just that.

As far as whether its a migraine or not - in my case anyroads, there's more worry as to the source ( bacteriological) than what type it is.

    Will know next week.

    Cheers,

We need to start a club.

You, me and Ero, well we need him to make the lunch and tea.

I've been left with a damaged right temporal lobe more than likely from an infection I got in Japan, damn ninja flu. It sounds like your Docs are on the ball with it though.

Best of luck with it all and I hope you get on the mend soon.

Other than drugs I've found the best things for head pain are either a heat pack on the head or eating drinking something ice cold.

We can call the club "I want a lobotomy anonymous"

It may be that your previous infection has made you more susceptible to migraines. The good news is that in themselves migraines don't cause any harm.

Personally I recommend lying in a hot bath in the dark with a cold cloth over your eyes. Sleeping with an ice pack under your neck can also help.

Large doses of aspirin can help (1000mg plus), However you should avoid aspirin if you have risk of bleeding stroke etc.

Triptan based drugs are also effective, although they can make you feel woozy and disorientated.

I would avoid paracetamol as it is worryingly easy to overdose on paracetamol which is fatal. This is particularly true of migraines because it is so easy to loose track of time and to forget what pills you have taken when.

Fancy MREs and cold, iced tea, do you? I thought we'd put Ero in Membership Recruiting and have you do the club dinner, lol.

:eek: ahhrg...so, if I manage a map-meet you're the one who'll be non-stop talking and not shy to voice your opinion. LOL.

Not trying to make light of it, mind you, however; better to laugh than cry, innit? So, that's why I never see you posting tunes in the music forum, then.

By Ninja Virus, I'm taking you to mean the Muntant Ninja Flu - the way it morphs into a new strain as soon as they've manufactured a new vaccine.

Ya, they really don't like it when a bug changes, and especially in my case, when its behaviour changes radically, they get super-nervous, LOL. The time when I first contracted whatever it is, I'd extreme swollen joints then later terribly high fevers, but the remains of this bug are now super-quiet, no fever at all - well occasionally, I'll suddenly have one - but its dry and darn't last.

Aside from the weird green/brown oily liquid that suddenly pours out of one ear on occasion, I'd not really known anything at all was occurring if it'd not been for the terrible headaches after sparring and I won't know until next week if the blind spots are even related.

Yes, that is the thinking presently. The only thing I'm presently taking is Gentamicin - which isn't a pain killer, of course. I think they want the scans and cultures before they put me on anything as you've described.

Which is fine by me, I despise heavy duty pain medicine and relaxants. Make me feel slow and stupid.

I'd left over 600mg Ibuprofen from my last surgery so, I'm taking that.

    Cheers,
