I agree. It's also important to note that male eating disorders and body dysmorphias are on the extreme rise. I've known several (male) friends who have had issues with that. I think cultural depictions of men like He-Man are influential. I still think, though, that it's important to notice the differences. Barbie is a vision for others, while He-Man is a creature that uses his physicality to do things...

I know of a magic liquid that convinces you of both. Just sayin'.

Does that really still need explaining? Wow, ok.

Feminism asserts that we live in a society made by men for men where women are oppressed in various ways including Barbie for the reasons listed on the picture. The exact thing applies to men with a massive list of fictional characters. Not only on a side note do men not care, but feminists also conveniently eschew the fact that male characters are also unrealistic, thus flying in the face of the 'by men for men' theory. Hence double standard.

On a brighter note, more feminism goodies to file under best of 2015! Looks like it's gonna be another great year of feminism shooting itself in the foot.

    As I thought.

Again, you are conflating some feminists with feminism. That's okay, lots of feminist journalists make the same error, so you're in good company.

By your logic, the woman who wrote this is not a feminist, and neither is Jennifer Siebel who founded the Representation Project:

"Increasing media literacy and challenging the stereotypical representations of men and women on television and film helps all genders develop the skills to think critically about the representations we see in our everyday life. With growing pressure on men to be strong, muscular and abs-olutely flawless, many feminist organizations have been dedicated to drawing awareness to how stereotypes impact all genders. The Representation Project is one of them."

Can you see the flaw in your logic?

    Quite right too.

They should pay to appropriate African American culture, like straight white men do :p

Mainstream feminism is radicalized since the 60s. Singling out the few moderates is a waste you are welcome to, however. The silence on the Cytherea gangrape from prominent feminist circles usually so quick on flying off the handle was deafening. Looks like ex-pornstars raped in front of their kids by non-rich privileged white men doesn't tick all the feminist rape culture checklist boxes.

    I don't get your point.

Is it relevant to what we were just discussing?

User Greg1075 has not yet posted about the horrors of Aaron Tuneberg, clearly he supports beating disabled men.

All news stories about the Cytherea rape have been blocked in the EU by Google under privacy laws (the "right to be forgotten"), which is weird. May explain why journalists are seen as being "silent"?

There are seemingly thousands of anti-feminists jumping on the "why are they silent?!" bandwagon, but not much mention of any of the actual issues that the event could have brought up for discussion. Seems like a pretty cynical use of someone else's misery to further an agenda :(

People still can't stay away from poor analogies. Very sorry to snip-that-quip, but for one user Greg1075 hasn't declared himself a bastion of disabled men's rights. Secondly - and unlike feminism in the case of Cyrethea's rape - wasn't even aware of that story.

As for the google privacy laws - like it's prevented European journalists from writing about thousands of topics and people since, but let's pass on that - the rape happened in north america. The largest feminist organizations and most prominent feminist activists are in north america - Yet not a word from the rape culture brigade. Zero. Nothing. Zip. A Google search only shows articles from a few news outlets and porn industry sites. A search for Cytherea on one of the largest feminist blogs in the world returns a grand total of zero results 3 months later. Now how could that possibly be? Surely there's someting at play here, nooo? You tell me, dear sirs - you tell me. Mercedes Carrera seems to have an idea and made a video calling out feminists on their shameful silence. She started a fundraiser and, guess who pitched in? Cytherea's fans. You know, those same abject woman-objectifying evil rapist-to-be ambling penises. Feminists? Not as much as a dyed hairy armpit in sight.

But hey, ban bossy, man spreading, clapping, shirts, present wrapping, female dissent, free the nipple and #killallmen. You go girls.

If all you're going to do is regurgitate hot air from anti-feminist websites, without any of your own opinions or research, I'm not sure there's any point continuing.

Pretty much all you've given is indignant bluster. Which is exactly what you accuse feminists of doing.

    Yes, good example, thanks.

You are framing everything in indignation of how you perceive feminists to feel about issues.

    You are very welcome.

Answers your question quite clearly. Your inability to connect the two, well that's another problem altogether.

As for how feminists feel about the issue, we wouldn't know since they haven't made one comment about it, presumably too busy going hysterical over the UVA fake story. But hey, the rape was 3 months. Might as well give them 3 more.

I stay away from analogies as much as possible precisely because they crumble under the microscope, so...no. But hey thanks for stopping by all the same :)
