If this is not on your list of favorite film scenes, there is something wrong with you!

Simply the best sword duel in any film ever!

LOL, certainly in the top! I honestly include this movie in my list of a favorite martial arts movies, because (1) it has several sword fights, (2) it has a hand-to-hand fight, (3) and there's the strong theme of revenge so prevelent in Asian martial arts: "You killed my [father, master, whoever]. I will train for the next 20 years, and then kill you!" And (4) for extra measure, it has a guy dressed as a ninja, more or less. Completely a martial arts movie!

Agreed! Another one of my all time favorite movie scenes is from this movie. It is about what you talk about up here. And to me the theme is what my school calls martial spirit. Never give up- put every ounce of everything you have into your goal.

The ending to my favorite sports movie:

Rutger Hauer just has insane charisma. And speaking of Hauer...

Mandy Patinkin's performance in that scene is awesome. Reading up on the film and his character he discussed that he imagined he was fighting the physical human representation of cancer, who took his Father.

So when he's saying those lines... well...

Ok well since we're discussing fight scenes now.

I'm not sure if I want to post it here on MAP just due to the blood and violence (yes I know who we are:p) but youtube..

Killzone. Donnie Yen vs Wu Jing and trust me. You will not be disappointed. A lot of traditional wushu work, adapted with the uses of an ASP vs Blade.

Donnie then fight Sammo Hung and in that he changes the choreography to a mix of pro wrestling/MMA and wushu. Just to mix it up and you see Sammo in moves you have never seen him previously do. (An F5 people...F5!!)

    Great fights

However.. just to provide a video.

Once Upon a Time in China 2.

    Donnie v Jet.

Jet plays the semi mythical character of Wong Fei Hung and Donnie is the local General. Jet visits him to ask for aid and the below scene happens.

    https://youtu.be/1Xpf2XBdLL4

Bit of background. Both men in height of popularity at the time also had a hard time working together (rumour has it) but now they are very chummy.
However a lot of doubles had to be used on set and apparently this one scene took a really long while to make.
On another note. Scenes like these can actually take up to a week to film. So consider that when you watch a 2min fight scene.

I've always felt cheated by both Jet Vs Donnie fights because you don't get to see them H2H

Pretty much the whole of Snatch - but especially the robbery on the bookies - love that

The scene in Goodfellas where Joe Pesci does the whole 'Funny? Funny how? I amuse you in some way' with Ray Liotta...brilliant

The opening of Saving Private Ryan with the beach landing....best rendition of how terrifying those sort of operations must have been and a fantastic counterpoint to the whole CoD videogame versions

Can I pick every scene in Jaws? Love that film. Robert Shaw is just brilliant. The bit where they compare scars and then get onto the wreck of the Indianapolis....the change in tone and pace. Just a simple locked off camera and reaction shots to Brody. No bells and whistles, VFX or CGI and yet it's mesmerising.

    Also...love the end of Rollerball.

The end fight scene is also awesome. It took me ages to finally realise
Jet starts with only one big piece bamboo and uses that one piece the entire fight, right to the end

DY got his eyebrow slashed open as well during the last fight scene by JL's double.
FauxJet jumps and spins around a bamboo pole, like a pole dancer and whacks DY in the face with the stick.
So they had to stop filming for a while and then get creative with angles and reverse shots (a common technique)
Its also part of the fun in watching films. Finding the techniques and mistakes. :)
