I must admit to using tekki shodan alot for gradings because it's short and sweet and quite powerful.
Now i've learned hangetsu though i think it will replace this,i just love the transition between the slow and fast movements.

    Favs!

My favorites would have to be:

Empi-Sho kata (First elbow form/ Flying Swallow)

Bassai Dai kata(Breaking through the fortress form/Breaking through the giant enemy circle form)

Tsu-Sho kata (Way of the Bo form)

    Actually, it's Jyuroku (Sixteen).

Seiryu is "Sixteen" in the Okinawan dialect.

I have several favorites, but out of all these the only one I know and practice (and am beggining to master) is Saifa (Goju Ryu). It's a great kata, very efficient, and it's application so useful. Also, it looks pretty good.

The ones still to be learned:
I also love Shisochin and it's complex defenses for a wide variety of attacks, and Seipai and it's amazingly destructive Bunkai. Also check out Seiyunchin, it looks Great, so peaceful and controlled, but you have to do it slow and be able to stay in shiko dachi and neko ashi dachi for a while. All these kata I've mentioned are Goju Ryu, Taishu-Kai traditional style, I haven't seen their versions from other karate styles.

    So many to choose from...

I love just about any kata that I can get someone to show me. There is just something about trying to study all there is to know and work on form regardless of what style one is.

However in my current style I very much love performing Ananaku.

    1.Unsu-my main competition kata
    2.Matsumura Bassai
3/4. Jion/Kankudai, the two shotokan ****ei kata, need to know them

  17. Alexander

    Alexander Possibly insane.

    Tekki Shodan

Has got to be Tekki shodan - I love its emphasis on power and the brutal applications of it all. (Some styles - I do Shotokan - would probably practise the older version Naihanchi Shodan. Shoto's is different in that Tekki uses much lower stances than Naihanchi.)

    Hello,

I really like Empi and Sochin. I like Empi because of its gracefulness. When done correctly it really amazing. I also like Sochin because of the sense of being rooted to the ground throughout the whole kata.

From Shiho Karano Karate, my favorite kata is definitely either Jeon or Masukazi. They're both pretty different.
