Tbf I don't think MPs expenses is an English only issue and I'm usually quite quick to blame the English. I think it's easy to say it wrong but easy to think it's right at the time, don't know what you do for a living but if you could claim extra money for doing the same job it would be tempting I'm sure.

You can't. You seem to be a decent human being. I'm fairly sure that's a massive barrier to entry.

Definitely helps if you are a sleaze-ball.

Maybe working in Marketing and Advertising is the best place to start for a career in Politics.

Its not a bad place to start - you observe plenty of politics, but can spawn off responsibility and consequence onto others - just as long as you learn to box clever, so that the proverbial does not come back to swat you in the face, sticking to you like a nasty rash -> "you scrunged it all up!".

Seen a few PMs fall because they simply did not understand the relevant Tech, what development is, and/or got too chummy to the wrong folk. Probably some others as well.

Don't worry. There will be plenty opportunities to corrupt him when he joins the apprenticeship scheme in the New East India Trading Company. You did know you were joining, right Southy? :p

    PS
Not sure if my latest s̶l̶a̶v̶e̶ assistant mailed you the apprentice scheme brochure, but here is the cover photo.

Who would have thought a NO vote can invent new technology over a weekend.

There's no sign of this story before today, so it's probably a case of Heriot Watt putting out a press release this week. They may (or may not) have delayed releasing it until after the referendum to avoid being dragged into the political debate.

It would have been better if the BBC had used the exact same image.

BP have been working on this for a while. They plan to use it at the Claire Ridge field.

Yeah, research centres don't spring up over night. Research outputs (from the public viewpoint), however, do.

I'm not sure you can blame the BBC for this - I don't think they were the first to report this today, making it unlikely that they've been sat on it. I think it's quite likely that Heriot-Watt were worried about publicising their work close to the referendum in case it was interpreted as a political statement. Although publicising it so soon after just makes it look really suspicious.
