Do you just watch local news, world news,or specialty news programs or everything in general? I personally am addicted to watching the news at present. But haven't been in the past as much.
I normally check the BBC, Guardian and Al Jazeera websites a few times a day and a couple American ones occasionally so by the time the news is on I've already read about it sadly. Local news down here is pretty boring so no, all the stabbings seem to happen in Southampton.
Lots. Unfortunately the BBC news has become really poor in recent years. I'm liking the Channel 4 news just now, apparently according to 'some poll' John Snow is considered to be the most trustworthy news reporter on British TV (prob because he doesn't have to bend over as much as his BBC collegues). I buy a couple of broadsheets a day. When I'm bored I read the same story in two different broadsheets and try to analyse the political bias of the reporters. I have also come to the conclusion that about 90% of Brits are thick as mince when it comes to being educated about politics. I blame facebook, X-factor, Call of Duty, Socialism, instant gratification and two year black belts.
With me watching the news was very much an age thing. When I was younger I hated it, nothing could bore me more. Now, as I've grown up I devour news, local, national, international. On my iPad I have a ton of news apps, subscribe to USA Today, South China Morning Post, BBC News, Sky News, Pulse News, have RSS Readers, etc., etc. Like Freeform I do feel that BBC News has dropped in form over recent times, but it is still my 'go to' news source other than facebook and twitter...
I watch CNN,CCTV,FOX and the weather channel mostly. The local news stations come out of a city about 100 miles away. But doesn't include anything about my town unless something really dramatic happens which hardly ever does.

I used to watch a lot. I considered it the dutyof any intelligent, educated person to have a detailed grasp of world events. Then I had kids. Now I listen to in depth news probably once a day for 15 minutes, and catch bits here or there otherwise. I read a broadsheet at the weekends only. Now the odd thing is that it's not so much the lack of time to read/watch/listen that's the issue, it's just that it somehow seems less important. I'm fully aware that there's some contradiction in that, as surely the future of the world should be more of a concern now I have people who will inhabit it. But it's more that I somehow accept that catastrophes will happen, injustices occur and dictators fall regardless of how well informed I am, and I have more pressing matters to attend to at home with a couple of little people who need the full attention of their dad. Plus I feel guilty about ignoring the little sods for hours whilst I'm on MAP. Mitch
it feels like to much and not enough at the same time would you mind expanding on this ? not only because I am a socialist but because it kind of stood out against the other things you said ? like you where giving examples of all kinds of mind rotting forms of media garbage and then just through in a political view you don't like for good measure ?
Yes, if there is nothing entertaining on then I'm pretty much going to be watching a news channel like CNN. I also visit news sites from different countries while on the internet, mainly from places I have been too. As for local news, I try and stay on top of it just to see what kind of craziness is going on around me.
Every day. I mostly watch local news but try to watch the world news or at least read up on it every day. Since both influence me personally and professionally, it's worth reading into.
News is lame and uninformitave. When I do I watch local morning for weather and traffic, just about the only useful info I get anymore. PBS newshour is the only nightly news I watch. It is more interesting and in depth than the regular news. But the for the most part I get it online. TV news and unfortunately even printed news is becoming recyled blurbs on heavy rotation. Basically I look up news online after a month of ignoring it and basically get all the same info in 15 minutes that has been repeated to death in other mediums for an entire month. Stories I'm interested about I have to seek out because all the news companies now are trying to save money by following each other in circles instead of investigating other stories.
I only watch news on the generalists' channels. It's useless to watch the news, contrary to what people think, it doesn't teach us anything useful. It only teaches superficial knowledge, and knowing what's going on in the world is overrated.
