Your perfectly functioning country, seems to of finally evicted the orange man who steals children (both points are factually correct) from the White House.

Where do you go from here, do you think the just under half of your society who backed trump will give up on politics, are has the genie of populism escaped from its Pandora's box for good?

And please be kind, we've got our own populist clown here too, and we have three years left at minimum of him.

It’s a step in the right direction. Unfortunately it looks like things could get ugly between now and January 20. So we still need to get through that before we can actually be rid of him.

I think its going to get worse. They've already poisoned the election by banging on about fraud (how did the side that 'own' patriotism start banging the drum for stopping counting votes and ignoring democracy by the way?) so all that'll happen now is 4 years of even deeper and crazier conspiracy theories but without the pressure release of having Trump as president.

I don't think they'll walk away, I think they'll double down on it.

For the Democrats they've got two problems to deal with as I see it:

    1. Trump and his supporters can't continue to be ignored as a vocal minority. Plenty of people still voted for him and ignoring that or abusing those people won't make it go away. There needs to be some serious reflection on what's going on here and some actual engagement with it. Left Americans can't really get away with keeping saying "they're not the real America" like they're some fringe cult in a backwood when there's this many people voting for him. When Trump is somehow getting the latin vote after all he's said and done because "Biden's a socialist" then the country still has a long, long, long, long way to go. Just finally understanding what socialism is would be a good start.

    2. A vote for Biden doesn't mean a magic wand wave that will bring America forward. The largest number of votes in history sounds good, but those voters need to remember that the American system is basically designed to make sure nothing ever happens and Biden is now going to have to deal with a Republican Senate that has already openly said they won't do anything for 4 years. The challenge is going to be in getting that message across that its an issue with the Senate, not with Biden. Plenty of people rubbished Obama when he had to deal with the same issue.

I think this is all still just getting started.

I am so anxious right now!!!! Just waiting for it to be finalized. Been glued to news for several days (and nights) now.

We Americans have to deal with the reality that we have a substantial amount of fascists among us. And we need to figure out how to fix that. If Germany could do it in a worse situation, we can too.

The work isn't done. We cannot be complacent even if Biden does win. There is a LOT of work that we citizens need to do. The danger isn't over by any means.

I never in my life imagined I would be worried about the actual survival of our country. I never imagined I would be worried we would turn into a dictatorship. That worry doesn't end if and when Biden wins. But Biden winning is a critical step in turning this around.

We aren't out of the woods yet. Even once we get past all the legal challenges Darth Cheeto is going to raise, there is the issue of how close this election was. There is the possibility of someone else picking up the populist flag and running with that base. Someone more competent and less unhinged than Darth Cheeto, who is more palatable to the non-populist conservatives.

Just to add, it's proper weird to have a modern, well advanced country, 'the leader of the free world' having a response to an election where a crowd of people turn up heavily armed listening to a nutter screaming death to the prospective VP and inciting the memory of a war.

Its quite disturbing how you can take things happening in America and be totally unsurprised if you were reading a report from Syria or Afghanistan.

Things will get worse before they get better.

Newt Gingrich just called for the arrest of pool workers in Philadelphia, without any evidence of corruption or vote manipulation.

Steve Bannon just advocated mounting the severed heads of the FBI director and Dr. Fauci on pikes.

A van with militants and rifles was intercepted on the way to the Philadelphia building where ballots are being counted.

Trump has been encouraging political violence more and more directly, recently saying that the plot to kidnap and kill Michigan's Governor maybe wasn't a problem.

There's a lot of snowflakey bad losers on social media right now, I think so many people bought into trump's lies, it's gonna be hard for them to walk back from it.

Let's hope for everyone they do, and we can make it easier for that, by being nice about it, (apart from the criminal behaviour which should be prosecuted of course).

So what happens now, do you think trump will resign, and get pardoned by pence? Can that even happen before any charges are laid? Or do you think bidan will try to not go down the legal route in an attempt to bring the country together?

On the plus side, once trump leaves, he will have a lot of debts to settle, and he's perminantly damaged his brand, which really is all he has left.

I don’t believe it is possible to pre-emptively give a pardon. I believe there needs to be a conviction first.

In addition, the State of New York is looking pretty hard at trump’s criminal behavior. The president has zero power to pardon for a State conviction.

Biden has said that his Attorney General will simply do his job and investigate criminal behavior where they find it, and make determinations to prosecute depending on what they find. Biden will not demand prosecutions, because it is important for the President to remain separate from law enforcement actions. It is not for the President to demand that anybody be prosecuted.

This is as it should be, and has been corrupted by Trump. The AG works for the People, not for the President.

Yup, trump is demanding the AG be his personal attorney. This is absolutely a corruption of the AG office.

Now the question is...........How much damage is Trump going to do on the way out? We have a raging bitter toddler in chief in charge for 70+days.

The head of the Proud Boys just posted on Parler: "We're rolling out. Standby order has been rescinded." Buckle up, there's going to be extremist violence to try to keep him in office.

For those who don't know, the Proud Boys are a violent white nationalist group, and when Trump was asked to condemn them at a debate, he instead told them to "stand back and stand by," which many took as "stand by for further orders."

    Hold on there folks

Technically speaking there currently is no winner of the US Presidential campaign, unless Trump conceded, and he didn't

The Media does not decide who wins, Joe Biden does not decide who wins and Trump does not decide who wins
January the Congress the House and the national archive decides who wins with confirmation from the electoral college

Bidan has won the most votes under the electoral college system. There does however remain the small opportunity for trump to engage in malarkey.

Does anyone here think that is a good idea? If not, then why isn't the process changed to one with less chance of malarkey?

The numbers overwhelmingly support Biden in the popular vote and the electoral college. The States have not yet certified their votes, but the Press calls the presumed winner when the remaining votes to be counted are no longer sufficient to swing back and put the other candidate in the lead. True, the Press does not call the winner. But they do identify the presumed winner when the math supports it.

In order to succeed in this election, trump would need to successfully challenge the outcome in several states and convince a court that there was widespread irregularities or downright fraud to an extent where correcting it would change the outcome of the election. As much as trump wants to jump up and down and throw his tantrums and scream foul, there simply is zero evidence of such fraud. The election process has been very transparent, and in the hotly contested States, the poll watchers for both parties observed the counting process openly.

At this point, if trump succeeded in getting a judge, even the Supreme Court, to overturn the election, it would put a huge amount of suspicion on the court, of corruption. And then we would have another huge problem on our hands.

Let me clarify, I do not doubt the Biden Win, I just don't like the press announcing things they should not be announcing
But I will say I was a bit surprised that Biden's electoral votes go up while 4 states were still undecided. Not pushing Trump, frankly I don't like either of them. I just find things like that interesting
