Breaking a baseball bat with shin(vids) Here is a link to some vids of our head instructor doing some breaks. One of them is of him breaking a baseball bat with his shin. Keep in mind while you watch, he is 6'4" and weighs 230lbs.http://www.chiptownsend.com/videoa.htm
You know, as cool as it is... i never quite got the fasination of breaking baseball bats, maybe its because im english, i don't know... shall we get some cricket bats in and try and break them? owch!
Ah yes the famous baseball break. My old karate teacher used to do this and boy was he proud of it. Everytime we'd get new students we'd have to watch that video with him doing his signature move as well as breaking ice and all that other stuff. ::yawn::
It seems worthless to break immovable objects. Let's see him apply a technique at full speed against an attack coming at full speed. I always thought is was dumb to break boards, blocks of ice and kick bats. Why? What do you build or achieve.
It's all in the technique ... I've heard it explained that you need to strike the bat at it's weakest point which is at the gripping portion of the bat and held taute with no motion so a good holder is paramount. Here is an explanation of Master Jun Lee's baseball bat break http://www.blackbeltworld.com/features/thetest/page3.htm Now check out this guy! Ballbreaker of a record goes below the belt
I've never seen a baseball bat break before so i was quite impressed. I wonder what goes through your mind when you do it for the first time. I'd have visions of a broken shin. Also what was the candle and the bottle one about? I couldn't tell from the video what he was doing.
lol lol yea that would be useful then I think breaking is great as long as you dont boast about it, Its just another way to test your technique I mean why not Its like sparrings its testing what you learn and applying it sure go for it but dont boast
I doubt very much its meant to have "practical application". I would say its more of a "Hey! Look what I can do!!" sort of thing. Nothing wrong with that parsé, but after the first dozen "masters" performing the same trick, it gets old...
watching people break stuff is fun. i watched the black-belt class break cement "boards" our teacher demonstrated to us how to punch properly today - 'cause some people wind up to punch, and he showed us that it's the hip that brings the power... and had his fist an inch from a board, and just flicked forward and cracked it in half. it was cool
Incredible stunt. Incredible telegraph on his kick. Works relatively easy on a bat that's stationary and at it's weakest point. Doesn't take too much physics to figure out the easiest sheer point on a stationary wooden object. May be slightly harder to apply to the other end of the bat. Or to an opponent who is moving and firing back. We've got lots of Kung Fu guys around town that break things as well. Chopsticks on the throat etc. etc. Must get expensive no?
