I need some suggestions on inexpensive boxing gloves. I am brand new to the sport and the gloves will be used primarily for bag and mitt work (sparring won't be done for awhile). If it matters, I'm a 6'2", 215lb, 40 year old male. Thanks!
You want 16oz gloves. Don't bother with bag mitts. One pair of gloves for everything. Go with brand names. You get what you pay for. Twins, Fairtex, Kings, Hayabusa, all good brands. Other people will contribute no doubt.
With Chadderz on this one, had some Fairtex gloves for years, well used but no scuffs. Heavy gloves will protect you and your partner better
Gut instinct is: probably not good. As Chadders says go brand name and get something of quality. I can personally vouch for Venum, Twins and Top King.
Entry level gloves (so not the best quality), you'll outgrow them pretty quickly. I personally recommend TITLE, but here is a list of gloves you can't go wrong with. http://bestboxingglovesguide.com/best-boxing-gloves-under-100-dollars/
Have look at these. £20 for a pair of Venums. http://made4fighters.com/venum-off-label-challenger-2-0-boxing-gloves-white/
Ill probably pick up a pair or Rivals, Haven't tried them out yet. I use to have Ringside, Really liked them. They ended up getting packed up with my uncles stuff when he moved away.
