Hendrix for me for pure improvisation joe perry-aerosmith slash - GnR Kirk Hammit - Metallica Dimebag Darrel-Pantera
No Clapton? No Zappa? No Townshend? No Richards? Sorry mate, but it's not much of a choice your giving us here! Have to vote Hendrix.
Stuff those guys, why the hell aren't I on that list?!  Out of those listed, I'll go with Randy Rhoads, but my personal guitar heroes are Robert Smith (The Cure) Kim Thayill (Soundgarden) Slash (Guns n' Roses) Dimebag Darrell (Pantera)
Wow you people just love to complain at this stuff dont you? There are only ever 10 options available for a poll and look at the top of the list: Jimi Hendrix - that means you only need one option. He wins every time. Just incase you dont like Jimi (maybe you have just come out of surgery?), theres Jimmy Page. Its not like he put a drummer on the list or anything.
Those artists you are referring to are not on the list simply because I like Heavy Metal best hence that's why you see there: Schenker, Vai, Satriani and Van Halen and not the rest. Hey Gilmour should be there too! But ten is the magic number. And Hendrix...mmm he invented the electric guitar so he commands the poll CG.
I voted Eddie Van Halen, but I would have liked to have voted for Michael Angelo Batio or Buckethead. Oh yeah, and although I like Heavy Metal, I don't think that other people should be limited to their choices by your tastes. I don't think jazz or classical fans would appreciate it much if I asked them who their favorite techno DJ is.
In my opinion, Jimi Hendrix is the best guitarist ever. Then, at a close second is Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave. Not complaining, just my opinion.
yeah nobody is complaining but they just want the record set straight that they feel that the person they voted for is the best guitarist on THAT list. Internet voting systems like this are hard to conduct for this subject as there are too many guitarists spanning 50+ years and all have their own "sound".
Only two votes for Randy Nice list and I like the write in's too What about: Neil Schon - Journey (Most underrated) Carlos Santana - (Hmm, I wonder which band) Marty Friedman - Megadeth John Petrucci - Dream Theater and pretty much anyone who has played for Ozzy. Fernando Sor - Late 17th early 18th century Classical composer John Sykes - Whitesnake, Blue Murder, Thin Lizzy et al. Jeff Beck - Yardbirds et al.
Good call. Of those on the list, SRV wins my vote. I saw a video of him in concert and I went " " for like 20 minutes.
Hendrix by miles on any of those clowns. Miles. But somewhere back there is Stevie Ray Vaughan. Smokin'... simply smokin'! I dunno how Les Paul could not have made that list... he invented the fricken electric guitar for Christ's sake!
Billy Gibbons... always liked his style of playing but steve Vai in his david Lee Roth days was superb
ok then, there are two options: either list al your favourite guitarists here in the discussion. or change the wording of the poll question to "which of thses guitarists do you like most?".
For me, it's - (Top 10) Jimi Hendrix (plays guitar the same way as me) Pete Townshend Noel Gallagher Slash Eric Clapton Paul Weller (might surprise some people-excellent guitarist though) Rory Gallagher Gary Moore Keith Richards Santana Obviously people opinions are different - wouldnt mind being amongst these people!
People who like Hendrix are either don't play guitar, black, or suck at guitar. Anyone with any good formal training and skill could tell that Jimmy Page is the best on the list. Jeff Beck is his only real competition. People who contradict my Hendrix comment: stick to your pantatonic solos and be quiet.
LOL! Noel Gallagher in your top 10? Christ mate, even he says he isn't very good. Agutrot - Funny how many of the worlds greatest musicians agree that Hendrix is one of if not the best guitar player ever, yet at the mighty age of 16 you have the knowledge and skill to say that he shouldn't be up there. Don't know if you play any Zeppelin songs but they make heavy use of pentatonic patterns. I have to give you credit for the avatar though I would have Hendrix at the top of that list with Page coming a close second. My personal favourites are amongst others Page, Hendrix, Richards, Clapton, Slash, Townshend. Can't beat them, classic tunes and great players.
