    Similarly to the 'Bad Ninjutsu Videos and Critiques w/o Off Topic Videos' thread started by Fu Bag, we follow the same rules with the exception of 'Boxing VS' of posting relevant videos to the subject of Boxing and comment on what is wrong with 'what happens to be wrong' in the video, or as Frodocious put it:
    (Note: Ninjutsu was replaced by the word Boxing for the purpose of relevance)

    This first ine is bad because of the fact the appeared to have pulled a man out of the bar and put a set of gloves on him. No stance, basics, movement or any ability of any kind.

    The Mullett is phenomenal though

    This second is not boxing as such - it is "Toughman" - but I think it illustrates the gulf between people watching it and thinking "I can do that" and an actual boxer

    I'm so tempted to post up a video of Paul Williams... and I will....

    Williams VS Martinez I
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsA0hreQAWI"]HBO Boxing: Williams vs. Martinez Highlights (HBO) - YouTube[/ame]

    For the life of me I can't figure out why Long Tall Paul feels he has to fight on the inside given that he's 6'1" at welterweight... which isa skyscraper for the divisions he fights in ( Welterweight, Jr. Middleweight and Middleweight). He's a rangy, loose puncher with a very high work rate...

    But... feast your eyes on this...

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djXtzcSPLsk&feature=related"]Paul Williams vs. Sergio Martinez ll - YouTube[/ame]

    that's the price he pays for this strategy of fighting on the inside. Ouch! That was right up there with the worst KO's of 2011!!!

    I was going to post this video but it looks like you beat me to the post (if you know what I mean).

    Here's my commentary on it;

    Right, so what is wrong with this video besides everything?
    For starters we have two psychically (and most likely psychologically as well) unconditioned individuals in the ring who clearly have no knowlegde in Boxing whatsoever.

    The 'Elusive Fighter' from the Blue Corner has no concept or thought of weaving and slipping or covering up and pivoting away from the unguided flurry of punches. No guard (instead favors using the ref as one instead)
    His eyes are off his opponent every time his opponent attempts to punch him, even worse he turns his back where not only could he be hit in an area such as the back of the head, liver or kidney, but again, he can't see what his opponent is doing nor when his opponents guard has dropped (in fact his opponent never had a guard to begin with). Has no concept of countering, or setting up combinations, instead favoring 'pushing' his opponent away (unfortunately pushing doesn't get you very far in Boxing whether it be in punching form or not). Foot work, well its very obvious that switching your stance isn't going to get you very far in the department of using your power hand effectively or staying balanced. Lastly, he is clearly extremely delusional about his own lack of abilities, thats the biggest crime portrayed here. As for his resume of dodging cars? To be as disorientated in the ring as he was, one would think he was hit by a car. Actually, the prospect of watching him dodging cars sounds rather entertaining. I would pay to see that.

    Now for the 'Caveman' in the 'Red Corner', ugh. Well, he looks like one and he fights by instinct as a caveman would. Classical bar brawler with the one punch in his arsenal: The Haymaker - A poorly executed hook. A stiff jab or overhand would of put him in his place pretty quickly. Again, as expected, terrible foot work, a properly executed punch would put him off balance. However unlike the 'Elusive Fighter' the 'Caveman' here has figured out to stay primarily in one stance and to keep his eyes on his opponent.

    Good point, he has orangutan arms. I don't know either why he wouldn't want to use them to his advantage and keep some distance between him and his opponent. I'm no expert, but wouldn't someone with arms his length want to work more off the jab, especially towards the end of the match?

    This is Boxing, not hip hop dancing. :rolleyes:

    Usman, from what I saw got knocked out due to the mistake of dropping his guard while in the power range of his opponent's right hook. I'm surprised the first hook didn't remind him where he was in the ring. From the repeat its clear that Usmans opponent distracted him with the jab to the body before going over the top with the right hook. But damn, even in slow motion that was fast.

    James Butler today is serving a prison sentence of 29 years after being convicted of the murder Sam Kellerman (brother of Max Kellerman), which whom he had been friends with for 10 years prior.
    Ironically his nickname was The Harlem Hammer.

    Another example of a lousy ref, it was pretty obvious when the Japanese boxer was backing up he slipped, it wasn't the first hook that took him down, he had a tight guard on him. No way that cheap shot should of counted as a win, if anything it should of counted as a disqualification. It was pretty clear the other Boxer hit him when he was down. The point is only furthered by the other Boxer's reaction by pushing the Japanese Boxer and his trainer aside.
    I wouldn't be surprised if the bout was rigged.

    I have no idea what the organizers were thinking when they arranged this match, yet alone what Ray Mercer was thinking when he accepted.
    I don't know why he stopped sparring, the kick clearly didn't land, I thought that was a pretty good shoulder roll actually.

    Luis Resto (20-8, 8 KOs) was a light puncher and considered an average fighter at the time. When he gave a serious 10 round beating to undefeated up and comer Billy Collins Jr (14-0, 11 KOs), Collins' father got suspicious. After Resto congratulated his opponent, his dad shook Resto's hands and noticed something was wrong with the gloves. Turns out Resto's trainer, the notorious Panama Lewis, had removed some of the padding in the gloves. It wasn't until this documentary came out that Resto also admitted Lewis had coated his hand wraps with plaster of Paris, essentially giving him a cast on each fist. They both served prison sentences. Collins Jr had his eye damaged so badly he couldn't continue his pro career, and died a year later in what many believe was actually a suicide rather than a drunken car crash.

    One of the worst examples of self defense I have seen against a 'Boxer'.
    For starters, what Boxer stands square on, has their hands down that low and away from their face, no sense of rhythm or distance control?
    In reality if you tried firing a head butt, expect to see an uppercut or a hook, or a punch in the nuts. In that last self defense example when he attempts the joint locks, the right side of his head is wide open for a left hook.

    Thankyou Captain Obvious in the magic pants.
    Using a weapon will indeed increase the odds in your favor. Though the fact that the Aikido practitioner even had to use a weapon says allot about his lack of ability against handling punches.

    As for the Boxing; I'm not sure how spinning your back, throwing your hands up and down, switching your stance and throwing your weight around is going to help you. Good timing and disarming 'Captain Obvious' would though, though Boxing as an art form is not designed for the disarming of weapons, yet alone engaging in combat against them. None the less, the demonstration of Boxing here is amateurish and not a good example.

    I would go as far as saying that the title is misleading and should be retitled: Guy with stick vs Guy with gloves.

    If I were this woman's shoes (the boxer with the blue gloves), I would be demanding my money back from whoever trained her. There is no excuse to be sparring like this after a couple years of Boxing under your belt, unless what she was doing was essentially Cardio Boxing.

    For starters, shes not looking wheres shes going, yet alone what she is hitting. She's swinging her arms around like windmills rather punching straight ahead, and thats probably due to her wanting to throw hooks and overhands without setting them up first. Generally with a taller opponent, you have to go underneath (bobbing) the punches or bypass them (slipping the punches). The shorter boxer needs to focus on getting in and getting out by utilizing their angles. You can't go running straight into them and this video demonstrates why. Brawling does not necessarily equal Boxing, especially without strategy.

    Here's another poor Boxing video.

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jem7RkjpmOQ"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jem7RkjpmOQ[/ame]

    Firstly, the mitt work... [IMG]

    The mitt holder in this video (who is also the coach) is not holding the mitts correctly.

    His hands are spread out too far or too low - This can lead to bad habits in the Boxers foot work, sense of range and punching technique. Since extending out your arms like the pad holder, is not simulating punching to the head (or any other body part for that matter) for the Boxer hitting the pads.

    Not to mention if you happen to have a hard hitter, having your arms spread out like that can lead to injuries (hyper extension) and can even send your pads flying since there is no resistance.

    He's not telling the Boxer to bend his knees when he punches to the body - This can leave you're face wide open for a counter and you won't get either the same extension on the punch nor power, and he's not doing the Boxer any favors by throwing the jab over his head than at it.

    He's not telling the Boxer to bend his knees and sit into the slip- The Boxer is leaning over too much, which is affecting his center of gravity, making him off balance which will in turn affect the power, speed and extension of any counter punches he chooses to throw.

    As for the Boxer, well, I don't know much about him, whether he's just started or experienced. Most of the faults I'm seeing here are mainly with the pad holder/coach. The key problems I see here with the Boxer are the following;

    Cross stepping - When he moves to the side, not a good idea as you can lose your balance.

    Leaning over too much on the slip - A relativity common mistake, the slip should be firstly a slight pivot of the foot (depending on the direction you're going; if you're slipping to the right, you turn the left foot in) and the bending of the knees (like you're almost sitting or squatting) that way your body is in line with your center of gravity, not squared on with your opponent (making you and easy target) and your head is out of the way, not only that, you can also counter properly with and technique such as the uppercut by pivoting into it as you would with the left hook or the right cross.

    Not punching towards the center (or in line with either his own head or his opponents head) - This isn't so much the boxers fault, but more the pad holders fault since his pads are out too far. As a result the Boxer is rotating his non punching shoulder back too much (since his feet are in line with the pad holders, so to reach the target he has to stretch his arm out to the side more, resulting in him turning his non punching shoulder back), leaving the side of his face open.

    Unfortunately, I can't see the Boxers feet so there isn't much I can comment on there. And there are plenty of more shockers where that came from on Calasanz's youtube channel.

    I thought at first this video was a comedy skit until I realized that it was hosted by How Cast:

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6hg-43O_58"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f6hg-43O_58[/ame]

    There are far too many things to point out in detail what he is doing wrong so I'll state some of the obvious.

    • He's not punching, he's swinging his arms. His punches look like poorly executed back fists.
    • He's square on with the bag, this isn't a crime in itself, but if you're addressing foot work please note that Boxers generally like to stand side on to the heavy bag as it works their stance.

    I think the biggest thing that was wrong with that video was that guy didn't have a violent cell in his entire body.

    There is no way that was serious. You have to work on being that bad, it doesn't come naturally : P!!!

    The Philly Shell is one of my favorite defensive techniques in Boxing. But in the video below, the execution of the technique is mediocre at best;

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRT4ikQgO8w"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRT4ikQgO8w[/ame]

    • He's pushing his punches out rather than snapping them out - they're too stiff and slow.
    • The Philly shell/Crab (not the windshield wiper) has been around since the days of Tommy Ryan and George Benton.
    • The purpose of the Philly shell/Crab is to allow the person using it to set up a counter punch. In terms of defense; you catch/block the jab with your back hand, you roll either with or under the cross with your shoulder and you roll off the hook (video provided below).

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEuL5KYLMyQ"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JEuL5KYLMyQ[/ame]

    With the check hook, its generally done with a pivot as your opponent is coming towards you - this get you out of your opponents range, off the ropes, transfers your weight on your front foot (thanks to the pivot) which will allow you to throw the left hook with a good amount of power behind it (video provided below).
