    Interesting article

The gist of it is that a significant percentage of judoka that suffered from low back pain had poor scores on hip mobility. I know that in the general population this something we see all the time. You hips are large mobile joints. Your lumbar facet joints/discs only allow a few degrees of motion (mm of translation, ~2-3 degrees of rotation).

It would make sense if you are someone who performs throws that you monitor your hip mobility to try to avoid placing undue load on your lumbar spine. If you already suffer from low back pain it might be worth checking to see how mobile your hips are to try and rule hip stiffness out as a causative factor.

When you pivot to perform a throw the hip joint may be wound up tight. If you stumble or fall while the joint is wound up it can be sprained or the associated muscles can suffer minor strains.

Just thought this might be helpful both from a treatment and a prevention point of view.

I hope this is of some benefit to at least a few of you.
