Anyone have a Acetabular Labral Tear (ALT) from kicking before? Recovery time?

I just got back from the ER after an early morning run that was causing me acute pain from what I think is an old injury I sustained during kicking practice. I have pain when I walk and a clicking feeling when I rotate the hip. ER doc thinks it's an ALT injury. Got an appointment with a specialist in a month to confirm the diagnosis and some happy pills 'till then.

Anyone else ever have one of these? How long did it take to recover from?

    Much obliged.

Hmm it will be interesting to see what the consultant has to say. I know that for many the popular Dx has been FAI type injuries lately so it will be interesting to see how they differentiate which yours is. Are they doing any other tests? You didn't mention which side it was on.

Well to be honest there is a controversy at the moment.

Many things that look odd on a scan / x-ray are nature's way of trying to protect the joint.
They used to take out heel spurs until they decided that this was one way the body tried to stiffed the sole of the foot.

Often things become symptomatic that have nothing to do with what you see on a scan. Noises come and go and often are still present but unnoticed when people's bodies settle down.

Don't get too worried to start. Just try to give your body a chance to recuperate! (says he who was squatting about 260 lbs in he gym tonight a few months after a major tear/ruptureof my posterior cruciate ligament....)

I'll just hafta stay off my dogs until the MD office opens and I can pester them endlessly I guess.

It's my right, the insubordinate cur.

So, to stray back on topic here, has anyone else had an ALT so they can gimme some feedback on their recovery time?

I have noticed "excessive kicking" seems to be the go-to cause for impingements. I would say if kicking is the cause, it is more likely bad form than overuse (or overuse with bad form). Poor flexibility can be an underlying cause.

God just told me it's going to take 3 years for recovery. Sorry brah'.

I really appreciate the information. I'm gonna try to keep off it a few days, lay down mostly, maybe sit, but whatever I do, I don't wanna play around and make it worse or I'll wish I was dead. I really regret that I forgot to purchase a foam roller before the reinjury occurred so I could get down on the floor and roll over it. I'm sure that would help relieve some pain.

    :(

Any idea how long an ALT typically requires rest for? I imagine you've seen quite a few over the course of your MA career.

Oh man, he wasn't happy with that response. He just hopped on the Nope Train to helping you recover quickly. 10 years for you now.

Looks like something is going on with your K9 vertebra as well. I mean C9.

Other end is the problem, near the tail bone.

C9?? really? John is weird, but does that include a freakishly long neck? And how can you see the neck?

Did I just stare right into your crotch?

And why is there a bone between your legs?

I'm pretty sure it was an X-ray of him having his head up his ass.

None of you have caught onto his coever ruse: it is an xray of his neck and shoulders turned upside down.
