For a good amount of months, my lower back is often killing me.

Its tight and often aching all the time. I often find myself using icyhot, my massager machine, some random stretches, and other stuff. Its driving me nuts. Sometimes its painful to walk. When i go to bed sometimes, its so tight, I might have to put a frozen bottle of water under the lower part of my back just to sleep. I'm on the verge of going to see a specialist or doctor now. I don't have any radiating pain or any other indication that it might be a slipped disc. But before I do, I was wondering if there was anything else I can try.

I workout three to five times a week. I'm actually planning on adding a day to hit legs twice as my trainer has been stressing me. So I have a growing home gym and I'm thinking of buying this to start hitting up some hyper-extensions. I think I read those are supposed to be the best exercise to address this pain.

Then I thought, before I do this and maybe even go see a professional, I figured I'd post this on a few forums to see what kind of insight I might get.

    Any opinions?

Yes, go and see a proper doctor. A physiotherapist might do, but not a massage therapist.

You see a specialist after having pain for a week or two. Months is way too long.

Stop training immediately until you've seen a doctor.

Another vote to go and see a doctor or some other specialist in dealing with back pain. If self help hasn't worked after a couple of weeks then you need professional input.
