I very much think there's an inverse relationship between the amount of time most people spend training, and the amount of time they've spent in education.

With a few quite noticeable exceptions.

What is it that leads you to this statement?

My own person experience, and seeing how the wider BJJ community has acted in the last 18 months.

(The vast majority of gyms have been open for the majority of the time)

Pretty much all the blackbelts I know through my own gym, the wider gym organisation and through social media all thinking they know more about virology, epidemiology and medicine, then specialists in that community.

They've all gone full conspiracy theorists, about the great replacements etc and that covid is actually just a lie to bring "cultural marxism" to the country.
I've even seen one gym owner trying to use the magna carta defense......

It's really quite sad to see a group of people delude themselves so much.

I herd a good explanation of the difference between Intelligence and wisdom. Intelligence is understanding how smoking can cause cancer. wisdom is giving up smoking.

You dont have to be ignorant or uneducated to be in denial. You just have to be more attached to maintaining your own view of the world than you are in trying to acknowledge the world as it really is.

It is a minor pet peeve of mine that intelligence is often conflated with knowledge. I'd say intelligence is the capacity to turn observations/data/etc into knowledge/understanding, as well as the capacity to find better ways to interact/test/examine things to obtain observations/data.

I'd say wisdom is the capacity to apply knowledge in ways that are beneficial to you/the capacity to make optimal decisions.

Well, to make decisions that are closer to optimal--actually optimal decisions are rare.

    Spot on,
I can't remember the exact quote, but it was something like "it's hard to convince someone of something, if it depends on them losing food from their table.

Although in the UK most businesses have been able to get grants etc to cover the rent, and some income for the coaches, so really the impact was in making BJJ coaches have to get "a real job" for the short term, and making it harder for them to train during lockdowns (although most have still managed anyway).

I can understand it more in the US when there has been much less governmental help.

I'm fortunate to not have seen much of this locally in martial arts gyms.

I see the food on the table analogy, the community I've seen it worse from is music entertaining, i.e. DJs, most I know already have an anti establishment agenda, so add in years of drug abuse (goes with the scene) and you have a cocktail for paranoid antivax rubbish.
