My research comes from antique boxing manuals.

The Sullivan that I reference most is James Edward Sullivan from his 1893 boxing book.

John L. would have been familiar with (and used) all of the same material as in James E.'s book because it's the same rule set (London Prize Ring).

Is that Sullivan as in John L. Sullivan? The godfather of boxing? He fought is what are basically old school versions of modern MMA competitions?
