Do you use Wrestling Mats for your grappling? The Jig-saw mats, or some other mats? Which in your opinion is better?

For anything long term then Wrestling/Judo/grappling mats are by far the best option - jigsaw mats cannot take the impact....or perhaps more accurately the people landing on them can't!

We use 2 sided 1 meter square jigsaw mats, with one side designed for more of a stand up fighting situation, whilst the other offers a more padded landing, for throws, takedowns and ground fighting, both of which are extremely durable.

As Hannibal highlighted though, either side can be used for the throws etc., it just depends on how much prolonged impact you wish to endure, when you hit the 'deck'.

We use tatami mats, and I have them at home. Some people call them "Judo mats".

We got these jigsaw mats, might as well be wooden flooring.

When we wrestling on the wrestling mats themselves, its made of these 2x1(meter) padded mats that we line up together then place the "wrestling ring" canvas over.

Kind of depends on practability for some...

At one club I go to we use jigsaw mats because neither halls we use have there own mats or storage room. They are good and comfortable for most things and you dont tend to get friction burns and they are light that they are easy to stack and get back in the trailer. Equally I quite like judo mats but at another club I train at has them in a cupboard off the side of the hall but I have noticed the more people them clumsily the quicker they "age" as such.

At the club where we use jigsaw mats we found when we did sone displays on grass at sunmer fetes they were too light and the grass supporred them making falling interesting...

I pulled the video games out of the living room and some of the furniture. I laid down wrestling mats. It didn't take long before my kids started working on their Wrestling and BJJ without me even having to say anything. Was the best investment I ever made. You really want wrestling mats though. Get the kind that is segmented underneath so you can safely roll and unroll them. Old school mats need to be left flat most of the time, and left alone to flatten themselves if you have them rolled up.

Good price, and you help the wounded warrior project.

Wrestling mats are ok for throws, but if you really want to do a lot of repetitive throwing you may want to get some of these. Particularly if you want to mess with Greco-Roman and other high impact throws. I am lucky that my Judo club is in a gymnastics room with the springy floors.

I'm pleased to make this our first post on this forum, thanks for giving us the opportunity to share...

For the high school to semi-pro set-up, especially for competition, its great to have some serious mats to do the job. Injuries aren't any fun in wrestling and can cost the team and the athlete a lot in lost time.

for the home i like Combat sports suggestions above for a home setup, for light rolling and stretching, great to keep the family active..

it all depends on your budget and needs, i dont want to sound like im trolling for buisness here, especially on our first post, but check us out. il leave it at that.

looking forward to offering more value round here in the future.

I have never understood why supposedly professional companies cannot even read basic ToS or stump up for the advertising.......it makes me instantly want to avoid doing business with them because it is sloppy and lazy
