What should a woman's Self defence course include? and why

I really like De Becker's material. Oddly enough the one SD book I have that has been written by a woman (Beauty bites Beast) feels the most gung ho and almost dismissive of some of the issues he raises. I find it difficult to read as it comes across as a very 'angry' anti-male text.

Were you referring to my book list or course list, as I feel my course list does address the concerns in that thread - but that is of course with the bias that I know what I want to cover under each subject heading and how I want to weight it. I spend far more time on 'friend/relative/carer' danger while on the subject of violence and sexual crimes than I do on stranger danger. Most of my book list is concerned with attack patterns and psychology and physiology relating to stress and danger rather than physical techniques. My main source of data on violent and sexual offences comes from government, police and ED papers rather than books.

I've not had a chance to read it yet, but Ger O'Dea recently put out a book for social and care workers. While I don't expect this to directly cover domestic situations there will be overlaps in the dilemmas of using force against people you care for (even if they are trying to hurt or actually hurting you).

I sometimes (it does depend on the group and the time I have available) use this lecture alongside my own presentations.

I just noticed that the book list I published above doesn't have any of the books I have on personality disorders such as the works of Hare. I've found that very useful in terms of its descriptions of thought processes, manipulation and social camouflage.

BTW - Apologies if this list was hard to read. It actually took me a while to strip it down this way and I was trying to get it visible asap for Tom. There is actually a female author in amongst the male authors and the texts are listed as starting points to build up subject knowledge.

As I said in my article:
