What do YOU want from the ninjutsu forum?

No, I did not. From now on do not answer me without quoting properly.

I indicated we will lock if multiple posters descend to playground namecalling.

I appealed to posters to report offenders who break TOS, without descending to that themselves so that we can deal with the problem easily.

If you have problems with these ideas please take them to PM.

But if we are not sure, would it be better to report posts that we think probably break TOS?

Lets say we see someone make a comment. Then we see someone else post something that may be an insult in response to it. Maybe it is not specifically against the other poster, but seems to indicate that it is. In that case, if we report it would we risk being chewed out because we erred on the side of caution?

    Hey Mitch,

Is it against TOS to tell another person to "please die", as thug-in-training Coronavirus did to me not so long ago?

Bujingodai caught it, but did nothing about it. This guy didn't even get a temporary ban. WTF?!? Didn't Bujingodai ban Ace of Clubs for wishing harm or something to his kids?

What sort of message is this sending to me and other MAPPERS who get week long bans for something our own mothers wouldn't object to?

I can take reality cheese an his constant insults. But telling people to die?

    Some fast food for thought,

Mark I did do something about it I took it to the MAP team and commented on it to Coronovirus. It was discussed.
Frankly you are correct there should have been a ban for that. I should have pushed for it. I may have, maybe not stated it well enough. I will check.
I myself do not have banning authority

What would I want from the ninjutsu forum? Well, I've noticed that whenever I click on a page or an area that's having problems, it says that ninjas have stolen the page. I wouldn't mind knowing where we're keeping all these pages? Might make for some interesting reading. :hat:

I do think Mark and others have a point, I will do some cleanup soon. Lock if I need to get this done. I'm doing a seminar this weekend so can't til Sunday unless someone can do prior to that.
I do think some posts should just be deleted, and maybe some more user notes put or banning to take place to regular offenders.
Honestly there are so many personal comments being made as of late it's hard to keep track of.

I run a business, and a team as well as a dojo so sometimes I don't get to it for a day or so. So that's not an excuse just my reasons if I slack a bit. I will try a bit harder, there are those here who want to have legit discussion.

So consider it a work in progress that won't get fixed overnight, but I will get to it.

Well to be fair dyeing is something we all have to get around to doing at some point, so why get into such a huff about it? You just need to broaden your perspective dude.

Coronavirus also uses the "please die" remark as a weird way of saying she can't stand something you're saying. I don't think it's usually intended as a death threat, though.

Use your judgement. You won't get any flak for reporting posts that are borderline. You will get grief for reporting things that are clearly not against TOS.

As Dave has indicated action was taken in that case. The fact that it wasn't communicated to you is a slip up on our part for which I apologise.

I suggest temp banning a few people that simply post (the majority of the time) to upset or attack other individuals without adding anything at all to the conversation.

If people report insulting posts then we will definitely move to bans.

In all fairness, and I mean this seriously - moderating is not nuclear science. Neither is it kindergarten teaching where children's emotions and future lives need to be thought of before taking action.

I have, successfully if I may say so myself, been a moderator on a large forum.

There are very, very few issues that need to be "discussed" (like when someone registers and makes a weird first post, a discussion can be made regarding if that person is a troll/bot/similar or just an idiot).

For example, when Master Betty wrote "you wannabe ninja morons" in the Kacem interview thread a couple of days ago, there should be no discussion. A quick glance at his posting history (amount of posts + date registered) should be enough for any mod on earth to ban him, either permanently or as an ultimate warning.

It's not as if a grown man isn't aware of that "wannabe ninja morons" is not acceptable grown-up-talk.

And of course, I just used M.B. and his "wannabe ninja morons" as an example. In 90% of the cases, actions are easy to take on a forum.

Just my humble opinion of course. :hat:

But isn't it enough if a mod sees it first hand?

If a cop walks by, sees a street robbery but no bystander calls out "THEFT!", should he just keep walking? Or take action?

Big if that. What do you think mods sit staring at the computer screen all day? People have their own lives, people get busy, mods too. That is why there is a reporting button, you and I are the community cops if you like.

If there is no cop walking by and no-one reports it, a crime will then go undetected. Not rocket science is it?

Hardly a mods fault if a few slip through the net, that said I bet you will struggle to find something that is not dealt with within a couple of days.

So when a mod replies several times in that thread and comments on the said comment, am I to assume he did not see it?

You can assume what you like. If your not happy with a post you know what course of action to take.

For me the mods have already stated their case. I don't see what else there is to say.

We tend to have a policy of discussing stuff anyway. In many cases, you're right, it is obvious, and you'll notice the MB was banned pretty swiftly following the "morons" comment. It was me that banned him, but even in that instance I raised it for discussion as a matter of principle first. I firmly believe that by making a routine habit of discussing these issues it helps to forestall the possibility of mods becoming dictatorial or being arrogant in the use of mod abilities and helps to keep us fairer than we would be if we were to jump in and make snap decisions.

In essence we're erring on the side of caution and benefit of the doubt.

This would be a pretty big slip up if it happened. I won't deny that we screw up from time to time, but this again is another good reason for you lot to provide us with feedback when it happens.

I'd also like to point out that the report post function does get misused though, so this is not a call for people to start reporting things left right and centre. I won't name any names but we do get posts reported from time to time that don't break any of the posts, by people who are clearly just trying to drag mods into their own personal vendettas.

Fair enough Cosmicfish, thanks for clearing it up :)

I worry sometimes when the ban thing happens or we lock something we have an entirely different crew that loses their minds.
You're not going to make everyone happy.
I am sorry if something slip by me. Somethings I think maybe just make a verbal warning comment.
The Ninjutsu forum is a veritable daycare, so the regularity of posts being reported and things going unreported would keep a full time crew busy.

I don't get to it or do it right each time.
I just got off a big seminar so after I do class tonite I will sit down and see if there is anything someone has not already done.

If you are of the opinion I shouldn't be a mod on the matter, please by all means report me as well. I'd rather a well running message board.
