good card! I've been following Conor Mcgregor for quite a while- such an exciting fighter and talker, I'm glad about this result, now hopfully everyone will shut up and recognise this guy is legit! Can't wait for his next fight. Who do you think he should fight next?
Also, welcome to the ufc alverez and welcome back Cat and what's his name bantomweight mind blank

What a night of fights! Well worth staying up to watch live! :D

Before last night I'd never seen Dominick Cruz fight, now I'm a believer!

The Yoel Romero fight was fantastic, great back and forth. I'm happy that Romero won though, even after the "between rounds" moment.

Connor McGregors fight was good, first round tko is good, I just wish it hadn't hit so close to the back of the head. The first one was accidental, but the rest were questionable. I'd say that Dustin was "out" after the firstshot anyway though.

Cerrone vs Alveres was just a great fight. Not much more to say to that really.

I was so pleased to see a kimura finish in the UFC! It was a great sub and I hope he got something extra for it.

Romero has to be the dumbest person I've heard in the ufc. I think he was lucky to have won that. I actually thought he had given up and wasn't comming out in the 3rd. That was ridiculous

Great flights and the prelims were good as well!

Even my local shisha place was screening it. Nunes/Zigano fight was straight out of a WWE match.

Zingano looked good. Those suplexes were amazing. I'm surprised the first one didn't KO Nunes outright. Still don't see her beating Rousey though. To beat Rousey, she'll need to keep the fight standing, and in the Nunes fight, she didn't seem interested in standing. She wont be holding Rousey down like that.

McGregor looked good too. He's got to be next in line for a title shot after the Aldo - Mendes fight. Aldo - McGregor would be a big draw headline event. Make it happen UFC.

Pretty disgusted with the Romero shenanigans. Big John should have waved it off when Romero didn't get off the stool at the first time of asking.

It turned out to be a good card, despite the lack of a big headline fight.

I'm still watching it but thoughts on the couple fights I've watched so far

Zingano has some serious potential. Sure she most likely can't beat Rousey, but she has the talent to be sort of the Condit of her division if that makes sense. Those suplexes were great and the sub attempts were fun to watch. How often do you see someone go for a toe hold? It looked close too.

The only thing I can say to Cruz's fight is "wow." Guess he's back. Good to see he still seemed to be able to do the same sort of footwork and as someone who has been criticized for being non-committal and a decision fighter, he damn well went for it in that fight. Guess two years is a long time to be off and he was amped to be back.

Mcgregor is winning me over a lot. Dude has some silly power in that left and the way he seems to lull people before socking them with it is fun to watch. I'm with everyone else that he most likely has to be the next up for a title shot.

Cowboy did good. He always seemed like someone who had to be the hammer and couldn't cope with being the nail. Dunno if he started seeing a sport psychologist, or maybe I was just wrong, but the Barboza fight and this one he seems to react much better to being pressured and on the back foot now. Good debut for Alverez too. Very interested in watching him fight again.

I don't think Zigano has much of a chance. Sorry Cat fans.
But I agree, she needs to stand up against Rhonda and even then Rhonda's standup is getting better.

Cruz looked sick. Takeya is not a pushover and was a good choice for a comeback fight. I love Takeya but he's a strong middle carder/not quite gatekeeper.
Even then, I haven't seen him get clocked like Cruz did to him.

I loved, absolutely LOVED Yoel's corner antics. Don't blame him tho, he was still asleep...blame (probably the best) corner team.
    :D
Not a fan of Tim Kennedy, at all.

I've always rooted for Cerrone, massive fan. I was hoping he wouldn't brawl. Cerrone is very technical but he likes to scrap and relies too much on his chin. I got very worried when he got into the dirty boxing position and was getting lit up. Glad he managed to pull it together and finally listened to his corner.

It's hard to judge a fighter on 1:46 secs of cage time but the only issue I foresee is the same issue all UK fighters have in that as they don't have the background in school wrestling.

As his two losses have been submissions to to joint locks, that would suggest it's an area of weakness for him. It wasn't tested at the weekend.

Lots of successful fighters don't have wrestling backgrounds. Anderson Silva doesn't have a wrestling background and it never hurt him. Add to that Jose Aldo, Ronda Rousey, Alexander Gustafson, Karo Parisyan, Hector Lombard etc etc etc.

When you are really really good at one thing, you can get away with not being the best at everything. McGregor will learn enough wrestling to get himself out of trouble most of the time, but his stand up is good enough to mean he wont be put in trouble very often.

He is right though in that every fighter from the UK seems to run into the same problem at the elite level, lack or wrestling takedown defence, Daley, Hardy, bisping, all had issues, and daley has knockout power similar to mcgregor too but still has problems with stopping the takedown at the highest level
The only way around it seems to be have world class grappling in another discipline like the fighters you named (aldo BJJ, Rhonda and Hector Judo) but no one in British MMA seems to have that, judo would be the only real grappling art we produce national and international fighters in, but none seem to want to make the transition
And whilst working with a good wrestling coach can help negate the takedown, like daley did working with Kenny Johnson its still an issue for fighters from this country have to face

Interesting too see how his grappling is tho since he trains with Gunnar Nelson.

If you guys watch the replay of Kennedy almost finishing Romero, you'll notice that Kennedy has a grip of Romeros glove whilst he's throwing the uppercuts which is super illegal. He's stopping Romero from defending himself illegally.

Tim Kennedy. One of the few fighters that can get a crowd to support Bisping.
