    hello my friends.

i found this video on youtube and decided to share. admittedly, i am guilty of saying some of these things--especially #4--on this site.

i know it's a 10-minute video but i think it's worth the watch. what it comes down to respecting the other side, as you'd like to be respected.

and my religious friends, since i've said some of these things, i'm sorry for being a dumb-****. i'll try my best to listen to and respect your view point and understand it.

p.s. there's also a good video by the same person of what christians shouldn't say to atheists, also a good view.

People who get offended by people saying things against their religion....need a slap with a loaf of bread and several wet fishes.

i think we're talking about different things. i'm saying to be respectful, not about saying things against religion.

    Nice video.

    Except:

    Religious people are brainwashed.

I am an athiest because I want to sin.

I don't want religious people "on my side", because they're stupid.

    :p

In case anyone took my post above as anything but tongue-in-cheek, I feel there are people who can think objectively about their beliefs, and those who can't.

It doesn't matter if the belief is in gods, UFOs, atheism, moral codes or politics. People across the spectrum exist in all camps.

I am of the opinion that you will always be offensive to someone. Just be genuine about what you say

I truly don't understand religion, most religions I've seen are truly and completely ridiculous.

Well said, good video. I've long been a fan of the friendly atheist.

Grasshopper, if you ever want to have a non-MAP conversation about understanding religion and the ridiculousness therein, send me a message. I'm not necessarily good at it, but I always like the challenge of trying to discuss religion in a way that makes some sort of vague sense, whether anyone believes in it or not.

Though against my better judgment, I will comment on this. While religion has over hundreds of years degraded into teachers and preachers that have turned it into "do good, or you go to hell" are wrong in their teachings. People focus on the word religion more than they do what it means. I have heard some teachers say that it's not about religion, but relationship. Jesus said take up the Cross and follow Me. Where people take issue with religion is that they must live this strict life of no sinful nature. While that may be what is taught and what is "right" to one who is a believer, it has very little to do with what Jesus came to this Earth to do, which is to save us all even though we are sinners.

Anyone here who is a Father, Husband, Son, Uncle, whatever may have family members they don't like... that's fine because I have many of my own I don't care for... BUT have you ever had someone who loves you even with your our faults? Someone that no matter what you ever do in your life still chooses to stand behind you and forgive you over and over, even when you know you don't deserve it? For me that is Christ, but my Wife is the one who actually gave me just a glimpse of what it's like since I mess up all the time, and yet she just forgives me and doesn't hold a grudge, doesn't bring it up later on or anything... just leaves it alone. I am so horrible about holding grudges and prone to violent outbursts of throwing things, hitting things (NEVER her), and in general acting like a kid who doesn't get my way that I just can't imagine that kind of forgiveness.

When Jesus said to take up the Cross and follow Me, He is saying He wants you to be with Him and to experience that never ending love and forgiveness and that is what draws us to Him and us to those who really strive to be like Him as well.

I didn't say all of this to preach to anyone on here, just to state my opinion. I will state that I am not a fan of what most "Christians" do these days. It's not right to scream certain derogatory terms to someone who is gay and hold up signs about burning in hell, Jesus never would allow people to burn down abortion clinics or endanger other humans lives since they were not ours to give to begin with. Jesus not only would NEVER have done that, He would have condemned those who did. The Bible is quite straight forward about judging another person and that it is not our place to ever do so. God doesn't need our help judging, He doesn't want our help judging, He wants us to love and to help those who ask for it, live our lives and worry about our own Salvation unless asked for help from someone else.

Remember that even those worst kind of people at that time that came to Jesus he didn't condemn, He just simple said "go and sin no more"... that was it. What irritates me about it all is how complicated people have to make it.

That's a good step you are making in making yourself a better person. I once read a book that talked about how some people ALWAYS think they are right. It stated that it was important to those people because many times they were starved for attention and instead of arguing with them... just let them be right and move on. Ever since I read that my life has been a lot easier... still not completely good at it though lol.
