Wandered into JD Sports and the Nike shop last week and was pleasantly surprised to see that the mannequins used for the women's Nike clothing are not stick thin, anorexic looking ones any more. They had obvious quad muscles. A step in the right direction! :)

I might have a chance of getting my own apartment soon.

For quite a while I was very happy, now I have no idea what to make out of it
But I think it's good after all.
    I hope.

Having a 280lb powerlifter trying to block every move you do in a class demo and then tapping him out so he squeaks :)

The grandmaster, 9th Dan, of my own teachers is back in Germany for a while.
I attended a seminar he gave, I was part of a little group -including him- of our club that went to a gala.

And today he gave training at our club.

And I actually was told, that what I did looked good - by said person
Ignoring the rank (I actually don't mind that too much), I still heard stories about him; part of it being that he's not one easy to say things like that.

So that actually was a kind of cool experience - the training itself (he was a European Judo Champion) had lots of throw-drilling (only three throws, but lots of repetition) and was really exhausting.
So that plus hearing that I did well... let's just say, that was new.

Probably won't make things to come any easier, but for the moment it's something I could enjoy for a few minutes.

Later I got a three or four minute "private" lessen for Harai-Goshi.
He gave me tips and corrected me, which was awesome!
Would have been more awesome, if not everyone would have decided to stay and look  :D

From the things that make you go Grrr-Thread:
Grading is over, Gala is over. Obviously.

Grading: It was a close call, but my partner passed.
He is not satisfied at all: His condition was bad and he was criticized a lot.
    But - he passed.

One of our teachers was going nuts, because he knew my partner could and should be doing better, another apparently said that, if my partner keeps working like that, they will give the blackbelt to me instead of him.

So, yeah, at least I have teachers with high expectations and don't need to worry (in theory ;) ), if they told me to go to my next grading...
I think, they would have liked to kick his butt

My partner took all the critic in though, and will work on it; actually already started today.
So in the end it was a good day.

    The gala was weird.
I usually don't talk to people or know people.
But somehow In ended up knowing most people withing the last year and even talked to lot of them.
    Weird.
    Just weird.

After being at the Dan-gradings and taking two gradings, my teacher decided to go for his third Dan after all

He sat down behind me, pointing and asking if I paid attention to the grading, since he will do his.
I took it with pride. I bet it looked real cool and relaxed when I started hugging his leg  :D

Can't wait to be Uke for him again, even though I might die after this time. This grading has four times as many techniques to show :D

And my other JJ teacher will do his next Dan as well; probably after my Sensei, so they can share me better ;)

I was looking for a particular DVD today and instead found a disc of pictures taken at my club 13 years ago.

I just can't tell you how much I loved looking at the pics; a lady who is now a 3rd Dan Assistant Instructor getting her 5th Kup, students who have gone from small boys getting their 2nd Kup to men who are now black belts.

Some students have moved away or stopped training, many are still with me, but it has been my absolute pleasure to have them all train with me.

I am a lucky, lucky man to have spent so much time in the company of such inspiring people.

The Grand Canyon -- standing out on one of the scary natural outcroppings that the Dept of Interior doesn't want you to stand on.

:jawdrop: :jawdrop: Words don't describe it. I stood there for several minutes stuck in a mental loop:
    1) My eyes tell me, "This isn't real. It's CGI. It's a gorgeous picture put on a green screen."
    2) But my body tells me, "Oh, hell yeah, it's real. You are standing over a 5000-foot sheer drop. Don't wiggle, you fool."
    3) Goto 1.

    Absolutely breathtaking.

I redeemed myself at boxing. I got soundly beaten several months back in sparring (I think it was in March), and that's been bothering me -- not the fact of losing, but losing so badly. But today I feel as though I redeemed myself in large part. I beat the other guy (not the same guy, a different guy). I put up a really good show tonight, really good. I felt really good about my performance. He landed a lot of body shots, I can't deny that, but -- I peppered his face with jabs and hooks so many times. :p:D

Yep, strange sport we have here, where we get happy about beating each other up! :p:D

After trying briefly month and a half back, I bought myself a scooter! As in a motorbike. Hahaha, what a fun thing! I am a bit scared to dit an it and excited at the same time. I hope it will serve me well on my travels to the dojo, too :)

aikiMac: I would put a "+1000" there, because it's that true.
I'm really horrible at adulting :D

What sort of makes me at least have fun: It's grading time coming.
I don't really care whether or not I get the next belt, but I love being uke for higher gradings, because you learn so much.

I was asked to be uke for a 1.Kyu in JJ, but I'm not sure how the person want to do that: The grading is in three weeks and I have never seen a complete program so far.

Another 1.Kyu in Karate in November; my Tori wants to skip blue and go straight to brown.

And next year in April there are two JJ-Dan-gradings (both on the same day; I am already so looking forward to that, it's actually ridiculous): One 3.Dan with my "main teacher", which will be the toughest grading so far; we did his 5.Dan in Ajukate together and this 3.Dan will three times the techniques to show.
And a 4.Dan with my other JJ-teacher, whit whom I also did his Kickboxing 1.Dan.
    Should be fun.
    And tough.
    But mostly fun.

Also in October: Uke for an orange belt in Karate and maybe an orange belt in Kickboxing.

I myself might have a go at Karate (3.Kyu), ATK (3.Kyu) and Kickboxing (4.Kyu); my teachers think it's time within this year.
For the fun of it and because I'd really like that myself I'd also like to go for yellow in Ajukate; I was asked again when I plan on finally doing that and since it's "only"* yellow, I will ask my Sensei about it.

*"only", not because it's yellow, but because the things I'd have to show I should be able to do already. If not, my Sensei needs to take away my current graduation in JJ.
Ajukate is a hybrid - out of the systems I already train in, aside from Aikido.

Why do I look forward to all this?
So much concentrated training, in which one usually learns tons of more details.
    Learning is awesome!

Today has been a bit exceptional. My eldest daughter (in her final year of a fine art degree) got confirmation of funding for her first professional commission, a sculpture which will sit outside the Nuffield hospital in Oxford .
Meanwhile my middle daughter (1 7yrs) was in Devon at the Budleigh Salterton Literary festival where she had been shortlisted for the open section of the creative writing competition and won the £1000 first prize !
S0, mildly chuffed and having a celebratory glass of plonk !

The thread title should be changed to something more like, "Female Martial Artist Stopped After Three Men Pin Her Limbs To The Ground"

I love it when people with no training or experience talk about how they can beat up a black belt. What did a piece of clothing ever do to deserve that, anyway? :D
