I've always told my wife that her handbags should be of the zip up variety and this is to eliminate the opportunist thief.

Apparently she now needs a new bag.

So I found this little ditty.

When reading Choi's encyclopedia of Taekwondo it mentioned an official taekwondo song (I kid you not) and so went searching. Couldn't find it but found that little number so thought I'd share to raise a smile. :)

So, I was at a seminar today, that featured two instructors; one of them being one of my own teachers (from ATK).

The other one was a Capoeira-instructor.
It was my first contact with Capoeira, if you don't count youtube-vids ;) , and it was really interesting.
We only did some beginner things obviously, and I admit by now I forgot all the names, but it was fun and definitely something new.

I also liked how the instructor told us something about its history and backgrounds!

The second part was done my ATK-teacher.
It wasn't anything new for me technique-wise, but what made it sort of cool was the following: After introducing with a sentence (which was nearly embarrassing/ awkward  ) he showed the first technique on me.
Nothing wrong with that; I'm a good Uke, I know the stuff (basics).
Afterwards he looked at me and told me to also "go around, look and correct" the others.

I suddenly was his assistant during that seminar, which was kind of overwhelming.
I wasn't surprised that he used e as Uke, as I was the only one of our club aside from him, but I certainly didn't expect that he would incorporate me in such a way!

And I sure as hell didn't expect that people would actually ask me questions (I'm only a JJ orange belt, which I wore, and yellow in ATK so... ;) ) instead of him, when I was near.
But they did; whitebelts just as well as blackbelts. And they actually listened to what I said.

That was actually rather awesome and a new experience.

I also learned that I take over some traits of my teachers.
When some people were talking instead of training or started discussing, I was *so* close to going there and tell them to cut the gabble and discussion and instead train.
Teaching kids makes me good at this, I think ;)
but it's nothing I could do on a seminar like this  :D
When I told my teacher he gave me this knowing and sardonic laugh that says: "Now you know how I feel!"

Overall: Great seminar, that would have been fun either way.

Speaking of capoeira, less than two hours ago I rolled back in from a workshop in Frankfurt am Main.

2400 kilometers in 23 hours, 16 hours of training in total over the weekend, 2 hours of sleep in the back of my instructor's car, and I'm more or less broke right now. In a few minutes I'm heading out for my German classes, and in the afternoon I'm teaching English for possibly up to three hours. I just might OD on caffeine before the sun sets.

But it was worth every cent and every minute.

Rekindled with an old friend from uni who I lost contact with on Thursday. Long story short, he had a horrific car accident two years ago where his fiancee passed away, he has permanent brain damage from the accident and will never be the same physically. I felt so much devastaion, shock and sadness when I saw him (we skyped), hit me so hard.

But he's still as funny as ever, still as self deprecating and with such a positive outlook on life and everything. Been in a slight daze these past few days, but I have a greater appreciation of just how precious life is again and just a reaffirming my beliefs about not sweating over the small things. I've been checking in on him daily, and although he appreciated it he kindly told me to not worry about him and go enjoy my life.

Absoltuely love the guy, cracking jokes about us sparring and going on a night out like we used to.

    Don't sweat the small things.

    Keep some perspective.

Enjoy and appreciate every moment that is life.

I've been invited to do an Eskrima session at a Shotokan seminar next week.

How can I even teach an angle 1?

The Shotokan lot only move forward and back in straight lines. :D

John Titchen will make me pay for this. :woo:

Angle 1 is shuto-uchi, angle 2 most similar to shuto-uke, sorta. Everything is karate :p

Thinking of part of Adam Hills' (Australian comedian - check Youtube because there's not much MAP friendly!) Clown Heart show that I saw Saturday before last. A lass tweeted saying that she wouldn't be at the show because her little kid was ill so he Facetimed her on stage to cheer the kid up. Then went back to telling people to kick cancer in the unmentionables...

God forbid you have to do one for a TKD seminar, you'll have to hold the sticks with your feet.

Got a question answered on Jack Slack's great "Fights gone by" podcast.
And he said I was "one of his boys". :)

Doing an Eskrima session today alongside John Titchen and his Karate Association.

Humbled to have been invited to a Shotokan Association seminar and looking forward to making some new friends.

Also taking my son to assist.

Spoke to Peter Consterdine of the British Combat Association today.

What a thoroughly nice chap and what a refreshing way he runs his business.

It's autumn here. Trees are full of beautiful orange leaves, except where the leaves have fallen off and clustered in beautiful piles of orange leaves.

There was gentle rain this morning, and I saw a fat rainbow in the western sky as I drove the children to school. A day can't be all bad when it begins with a rainbow.

No, it can't be all bad when it begins with a rainbow and orange leaves.

    Merry Christmas.

My oh my, what a rather amazing weekend, topping off a rather amazing week.

New friends, new connections, potential new students and a great deal to look forward to going into 2017, which is good because 2016 has sucked muchly.
