    hello everyone!
my name is tobias and i'm a martial arts enthusiast from germany.
i started with karate and took lessons in (or watched to) many other styles to find out what are they doing differently and why (judo, jiu jitsu, kobudo, (kick)boxing, krav maga etc.).
however to introduce myself i thought it would be appropriate to post an older sparring video from a charity event which was open for every combat sportsman (or woman). :)
    so here it is:

(other guys here were boxers, mma'ists, karateka and practitioners of tong-il-moo-do which is described as mix of karate, taekwondo and judo)

the first man was a boxing trainer from the boxing and kickboxing club here.
he wished to just do stand-up but used his feet anyway. :D some boxers also know how to do so. :)

Welcome to MAP. Nice to see some friendly sparring between MA practitioners. If you don't mind me commenting, I think you need to work on your leg flexibility a bit - your round kicks were being limited by your flexibility and I'd hate to see you injure your knee or tendons.

thank you and you're right on that. i started ma and stretching late at over age 20, so my flexibility isn't that good. well i'm able to get some kicks on height of heads but won't do it in most fights, especially when ground fighting comes into play. :D

Your striking is full of holes, and using off balance spinning backfists whilst not wearing sufficient gloves is a poor choice.

Your groundwork doesn't seem to have any top game, and your bottom game seems to be based around leg attacks, which you don't seem to know how to do.

    Who do you train with?

I would use harsher language than that.

I'm sure the lady who got hit by this untrained individual used far harsher language internally too.

    (Not my finest performance..)

Back on topic: Indeed not the wisest move to do in a friendly spar wearing what looks like karate mitts. And the spinning back kick needs work.

Still looked like a damn fun session. Kinda jealous. Wish I had such an event around here.

If you are the guy who posted the montage in the other thread on here then I seriously think you should abandon your illusions and listen to the caustic but accurate feedback you have recieved here, rather than relying on the fact you can make a few things work against quite low level fighters and incompetent grapplers.

There is a second video linked off the one you posted here, for example, which shows you attempting to sink in an rnc with no hooks, no control of your opponants body - except for a desperate attempt to bind the nearside leg as an after thought - and succeeding. That's great for you but it's unbelievably poor technique, which will have you swiftly punished by anyone who as half a clue about grappling. Similarly you pull an opponant into dominant side control (you on bottom) in the first vid and are saved purely by grace of your opponant's total and utter lack of competence (there are myriad instances of these sorts of things happening).

In addition semi-contact sparring is great but if you only spar that way you get a very disorted notion of what a striking encounter plays out like, especially what you can get away with and what you can absorb. I think you suffer from this.

I'd really urge you to take the valid criticisms of others on board without ill will and get some proper instructiion in. You will only benefit.

Props for posting unflattering video of yourself and good luck to you.

@OP-It appears that you are wearing krotty kumite-type gloves. For what you're trying to do, you need, IMHO, MMA or boxing gloves. I suggest wraps too, because you seem to like trying fancy strikes that can easily torque your wrist if your partner counters it well. Just my 2 pence. I agree with what the others here have said as well.
