I was running 6 miles a day and pushing over 60 push ups and sit ups, pull ups, dips, etc before i left for boot camp because i didn't want to be "Private Pyle" in Oklahoma. Eating less, training more, and pushing 2-3x a day is the only way.

Sorry im posting on the wrong topic.

    Ill add something though...
Push half reps on the top half, and half reps on the lower half.
It can help you past the sticking points.

One of the problems some people have is trying to sacrifice form for numbers.
It is better to do 3 proper push ups or dips than to do 10 crooked ones.

Try doing wide stance. You don't travel as far and work less to keep good form. Eventually bringing your hands closer together. I do em most every day.

If you can't do 10 push ups in a row you don't need to worry about things effecting your weight training. Sorry.

Honestly you'd probably get way more benefit from working up to 25-30 press ups at a time than hitting the bench right now.

When I started training I couldn't do a single push up, I used negatives to get that first 2 reps and from there just did two reps every time I went up the stairs, or used the bathroom or put the kettle on. Before I knew it i was doing sets of 10 every time.

In hindsight I would have used incline press ups (hands on a counter) over negatives (lowering yourself in a press up) but it worked either way.

Payment for simple tasks seem to be a common theme for people who train regularly and want to get good at a movement (at the start of their fitness journey, anyways). Everyone I know that has decent physical ability has done some form of training this way.

Also if you cat do push ups there is absolutely no need to worry about doing dips or trying to strengthen weak links. You have no weak links I'm afraid bud, the weak link is your body.

I really don't mean that to sound harsh, I honestly wish someone had said it to me when I was doing DB kickbacks to try to be able to do push ups.

Also you might like this, a lot of people rate it, including maps own Zaad.

No, I know that diet in combination with exercise is how people bulk up, I just said that bulk never interested me, and I have scant knowledge of techniques for doing it.

I meant more that I've never been into the gym, or weights. The only equipment I've ever bought is a pair of dumbbells and a chin-up bar. Not out of snobbishness about weights, mainly because I'm a cheapskate :)

Here's an article that, I think, sums up different kinds of strength pretty well: http://www.rosstraining.com/articles/strengthtraining.html

Well sir, you should re-read what you wrote as it is your responsibility as the writer to make sure nothing can be implied about what you said and that you are saying exactly what you mean.

And what do you mean you have "zero knowledge of techniques for doing it." Before that you posted "diet in combination with exercise." That's more than zero knowledge!

/me walks away like a snob saying "tut tut" wearing a pink polo. But isn't wearing the pink polo, he's bare chested, it's just slung over his shoulder. And his cargo shorts are 4 inches above 4 inches above his knees.

    Edit: I'm sure you knew this already, but just so it's clear . . . . . :p

Well sir, in fact it is not clear at all!

Do you mean to say those cargo shorts are 8 inches above the knee? :p

To be fair I've usually only seen one numpty in Tapout vest per workout. There was that one day when I saw two but it might have been heatstroke / blurry vision
